TNP’s Melvin Singh responsible for SDP’s narrow loss in Holland-Bukit Timah GRC #sgelections

The New Paper deputy editor Melvin Singh’s misleading and untrue articles in the days leading to polling day are likely to have swayed voters away from the Singapore Democratic Party in the very last minute. The SDP’s ‘A’ team in Holland-Bukit Timah GRC which comprised former high ranking civil servant Tan Jee Say, psychiatrist Dr Ang Yong Guan and private tutor Michelle Lee failed to live up to expectations by garnering only 39.9 percent of the votes. Speaking to reporters during a party debrief this morning, SDP candidate Tan Jee Say admitted that they were ‘expecting more… because we got very good reception on the ground, people were quite open and said they were voting for us’. Dr Ang added that the team had expected to win “45 to 50 per cent of the votes” and attribute the loss of votes due to the “lack of a deep connection with the heartlanders in the constituency.” ...
