Whenever I see tourists perusing souvenirs at Central Market or chowing down on ais kacang in Penang I can’t help but snigger (a little, inside) at their style MO. You know what I mean -beer brand tank tops, fisherman pants, an “ethnic” bag and those necessary flip-flops. So it is with great shame when I say I pick almost identical “I’m-travelling-in-ASIA!” uniforms whenever I break out my own backpack for a tropical adventure. It just feels freer to bask in my tourist identity, proudly whipping out food guides that fold open just big enough to cover my entire human self.
