Why S’porean youths might be brought up the wrong way:

The younger generation in Singapore appears to be increasingly unhappy with their lives. At least that’s what I gather. Could it have been the way we were brought up? Maybe. The expectations that society has place upon us? Probably. Or could it be a matter of having it good but not knowing it? After thinking about it, I’m pretty sure it is a host of factors: How we were brought up, our self-indulgent generation of like-minded peers and the constant need for affirmation and gratification. “You can be anything you want to be.” The truth is, we can’t be anything we want, but we’re not always conscious of that. Kids these days are expected to have their own unique preferences. They are assumed to know what they want. This is different from the earlier generations where our parents had decisions made for them and where they as kids are asked to be seen and not heard. But with o...
