Kitty hates durian.
I actually had a similar reaction the first time I tried Durian (on a dare). I could handle the smell and was even able to endure the taste on my tongue once I put it in my mouth. But literally the instant I tried to move the piece of durian around in my mouth a "primeval" urge took over my body and I retched reflexively. There is something about the texture of durians that causes a reaction in the uninitiated. What durian lovers describe as creamy is actually slimy to us. I think biologically it could be the combination of smell/taste/texture which our body instinctively rejects as a protective mechanism. Edit: Many years later and I can say that I have gotten use to the smell (I find jackfruit smells much more offensive than durian), and I even ate some recently. I didn't retch on it or even feel a gag impulse, but I still did not enjoy it much.
