New infrastructure to make life easier for Singaporeans are in the works. This is to make it possible one day for residents to walk, jog or cycle from Lower Peirce Reservoir to Gardens By The Bay and the Central Business District. This route follows the path of the Kallang River, which is Singapore’s longest natural river. As part of the river’s rejuvenation , the Urban Redevelopment Authority is looking into building a cycling bridge that spirals over and across the Pan-Island Expressway: This is to make it more convenient for cyclists and joggers to cross the 16-lane PIE. They currently have to use an overhead bridge. The 10km Kallang River originates from Lower Peirce Reservoir and passes through many housing and industrial areas such as Ang Mo Kio, Bishan, Toa Payoh, Bendemeer and Kallang Bahru, before merging into the Kallang Basin.
