Minister Yaacob Ibrahim has gone nuts, proposed Malay be taught as foreign language in Singapore! #sgelections

We went through this kind of discussion about the teaching of second language in schools last year. At that time, the government took a lot of flak because it was perceived as trying to degrade the status of second language by proposing to cut its weightage in national examinations. This came on the heels of comments Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew made in November 2009 that his long-standing policy of bilingualism had been in error. Eventually, the government backed down on this proposal to cut exam weightings.
