New blog post: Only four Singapore companies applied for Generic Top Level Domain

ICANN revealed the Generic Top Level Domain applicant list yesterday. A total of 1930 applications from 60 countries have been received. It is interesting to note that only 4 Singapore companies applied for Generic Top Level Domain. The 4 companies are Changi Airport Group, StarHub, Temasek Holdings and Wilmar International. Changi Airport Group applied for .changiairport, Starhub applied for .starhub and Wilmar International applied for .wilmar. Temasek Holdings applied for 2 gTLD, .temasek and .淡马锡 The 4 companies will most likely get the gTLD since it is related to their brands name. It is no surprise that US has the most companies applying for gTLD. Google seems to be the top applicant with 101 Generic Top Level Domain (gTLD) such as .Google, .Android, .Youtube, .car, .cloud, .FYI, .lol etc etc. Yes, Google did indeed applied for .lol.
