I think this is a bad excuse because by “packaging” politicians together, we cannot ensure that the more supported minority politicians are elected anyway. For example if PAP has a less supported Malay politician packaged with Goh Chok Tong, he would easily become elected. Compare this to a Malay non-PAP candidate who is much more supported. But because he cannot form a strong GRC group, he may not be elected. Hence although in the end 1 Malay does get elected, he is not the Malay that Singaporeans wanted. Is there a better system to achieve fair representation of minorities? I think a fairer system for the GRC would be as such: a) The electoral boundary committee should stipulate the racial composition of MPs for each GRC...
