PAP take care of themselves first, Singaporeans last

Let's be reminded of what PAP's compromising "ideals" with "pragmatism" means with regard to their pay. It had been the gross injustices of income inequality that motivated socialist revolutions in poltical history. The free-play of capitalism and "market forces" had, in themselves and their abuses, resulted in those inequalities. So, contra GCT's appeal to "market forces", when he was PM, to justify those high ministerial pay, market forces cannot be relied upon to be fair. Socialist revolutions, however, were extreme, sacrificing too much freedom for social justice, and so "democratic socialism" emerged as the better alternative; and so it was that the PAP and LKY began as democratic socialists, aiming to forcibly narrow the gap between the rich and poor, but done within a basically democratic framework.
