Mentality of trying to squeeze as much money as possible from Singaporeans is ruining Singapore

Some decades ago, I was elected "staff representative" sitting in the governing Council of the stat board institution where I worked. As Juffrie says, Council members were busy persons holding multiple positions, many themselves heads of other establishments. It was common, when I raised issues, to see raised eyebrows and the Chairman looking at his watch. Once they were going to approve a long outdated "Conditions of Service", until I forcibly told them so. Probably, I was the only member who read the "Conditions" before the meeting! The general impression I formed of my experiences as Council Member was that decisions made by them top-down were impressionistically done, and universally via "eastern consensus, not confrontational", in effect mostly going along with the Chairman (the politically powerful).
