I can't wait for Polling Day. Call it the seven year itch, or what you will, but at 28, I think it is high time I let my voice be heard at the polls. So far, voting in Singapore is something I've had to experience vicariously through my peers. The excitement of walking into a polling station, and the joy of scribbling that little tick against the party of your choice have been elusive to me. But it seems not many share my excitement. A recent New Paper survey showed that two in five young voters (between the ages of 21 and 35) would not vote if it wasn't compulsory to do so. This has again raised talk of political apathy among our youth. But I don’t quite believe it. Among my small and totally non-representative sample of friends are many who have voted before, or are dying to vote. But out of five friends I spoke to, four said that they would be voting for the opposition....
