As you can see, the “gourmet powder” is nothing but a mixture of salt and msg (monosodium glutamate). I can hear some of you cringing at the thought of MSG, which has received somewhat of a bad reputation due to the side effects (such as headaches) of consuming too much. The key, of course, is moderation. Glutamates (found also in tomatoes and mushrooms) react with taste receptors in your tongue to create a meatier taste to foods, which is why it’s called a flavour enhancer. And it’s been around for a hundred years now, after having first been invented by a food scientist from Japan.
