My Singapore – My concerns

Ok, moving from cost of living, there’s education. I’ve always had a problem with the education system here. It’s so closely pegged to industry requirements that it really is just a people factory. Take them young, naive and innocent on one side and mould them into software engineers…eh no, bioscientists….oops, i mean entrepreneurs…oh wait…what sort of people do we need again? I take a particular interest in education because, to me, it’s where everything begins. Breed a certain type of people and they will be inclined to breed more of their type. We’ve been so focused on the paper chase and the deceptive idea that good jobs are those that bring in a truckload of money a month, that it might be starting to work against us. Now, almost everything is quantified by how much it’s worth in monetary terms. No one wants to be awesome carpenters or service people. And when they do...
