Lack of students causes 8 secondary schools to merge into 4 in 2016:

The Ministry of Education said on July 25, 2014, that eight secondary schools will merge into four in 2016. The real reason? There are not enough students to go around filling up vacancies. Tanglin Secondary will combine with Clementi Woods Secondary and operate out of Tanglin’s compound on West Coast Road. First Toa Payoh Secondary will merge with Bartley Secondary and operate out of Bartley’s campus. Ping Yi Secondary in Chai Chee will absorb Bedok Town Secondary. And Chestnut Drive Secondary will merge with Fajar Secondary. In this case, Chestnut Drive will operate from January 2016 to December 2017, while Fajar Secondary’s school compound is upgraded. The merged schools will move to Fajar’s campus in 2018. The names of the merged schools are still being considered.
