New blog post: Saab going to release car with Android-based in-car entertainment system

Android is really going places. Saab just announced an in-car entertainment system call IQon which is based on Google’s Android. Check out the video. The system should come preloaded with Google Map. This will be great for places where Google Map offers turn by turn navigations. You can also check email, check traffic conditions, check weather using the system since it is able to access the internet (most likely thru 3G). And since it runs Android, you can install the Facebook or Twitter app and use them in the car. But make sure you aren’t tweeting while driving. The best part about this is that Saab will be releasing API for developers to write apps that interact with the car. Maybe you can have an app that monitors the fuel level and warns you before you pass the last petrol kiosk. Or an app that automatically sends the status of your car’s health to the workshop.
