The Singapore Democratic Party acknowledges the PAP Government's heed of the unhappiness of Singaporeans about the level of ministers' salaries and welcomes the steps taken to remedy the problem. However, the recommendations made by the commission led by Mr Gerard Ee is nowhere close to levels that Singaporeans expect. In our paper Ethical Salaries For A Public Centred Government which was embraced by the public as reasonable and realistic, we recommended that the Prime Minister's salary be reduced to $672,000 and ministers' salaries $504,000 per year. The amounts still make the ministers the highest paid in the world. The proposed revisions by the Ee commission still our junior ministers paid higher than US President Barack Obama.
