Have A Cup Of Cruelty: The Truth Behind Kopi Luwak.
Kopi Luwak, or Civet Coffee, refers to brewed coffee made from coffee berries that have been eaten and excreted by the Civet Cat. Coffee brewed from such beans are said to have a very unique flavor. These cat-like animals from Indonesia feeds mainly on fruits and berries; including the coffee berry. Their excrement would fall onto the forest floor and collectors would harvest these fermented beans to further process them for exportation worldwide. Initially, the excreted berries were collected from wild civet cats and because they were so rare, (it was said only 500kg are produced per year) it commanded a premium price for these berries!
