10 years ago, I worked in the island of Mauritius. While it is a great place for honeymooners, it can be a rather depressing location for the expats. It is because the infrastructure in the country as a whole supports the tourist industry more than the community of foreigners who work there. In our team, Barbara was from Philippines and she would take more than an hour to get ready for an evening party. And a few of us would wait in the car or at her living room. Imagine those days without a smart phone or device to kill time, she did drive a few of us crazy. I remember I was pretty cool about it. We guys do not need to paint our faces, only need to shave on areas that are to be seen.
