Foreigners unfamiliar with Singapore would naturally say “Tam-Pines”, while Singaporeans will just go “Tam-Penis” without any qualms. In old maps and old newspapers, Tampines went by many different names. They included Tampinis, Tempines, Tampenis and Tampenes.
