Trendspotting Spring Summer 2013: Sporty Panelling

The sports inspired trend is staying put for Spring 2013. We look at our favourite iterations of luxe athletic gear.

If you feel a twinge of familiarity reading the title of this story, know that you’re not alone. Scanning the Spring 2013 runway shows, we were reminded of last year’s runway’s obsession for all things sporty, when designers picked up on the Olympic buzz and offered up renditions of athletic wear in bright hues for the after-hours athlete. Or simply those that liked to rock mesh, neoprene and nylon with their plat flatforms. But while the world’s favourite sporting event takes a break for four years, sports-inspired fashion doesn’t have to. Inspired being the key word. Sporty in 2013, even more so than the year before, was all about taking lines, shapes, silhouettes and panelling from performance gear, further refining the idea of utility into luxury.
