The monster bought a car recently (!) and after he collected his car (!) we bugged him to drive us around. Hee hee.
Well, apparently, he was going to get a Suzuki Swift but turns out the Swift is a ridiculously overpriced 1.3l hatchback, which is definitely not worth the money you’re paying.
So in the end, they bought a Nissan Sunny (same as mine and vastly different from the Swift, haha) manual instead. Which, by the way, is not a very smart choice either because it’s a gas guzzler.
Tsk tsk. And with the prices of petrol increasing, day by day.. Sigh.
Anyway, I also lamented to him about how he has not given us a treat before (tsk, tsk) with his pay and all of us have!
Hahaha, obviously he could not stand my taunting (or nagging) any longer and thus we ended up at SUN Bistro at (very far away) NUS!
Aiyo, this monster drive very scary-ly. Cursing and swearing, cutting across lanes, speeding(!) and what-have-yous.
But we arrived at NUS safely anyways, so I shan’t complain.
We were greeted by a very friendly manager-looking person (I assume) whom the monster knows (from the same F&B company, by the way, which meant we received VIP treatment, hahaha) personally and who brought us the menus.
Had a look through and monster recommended some nice dishes. Basically we didn’t order. The monster ordered everything.
Took some photos while waiting for the food to arrive. The furniture in the restaurant is very nice! They look very classy and the red panels at the back stand out very well from the otherwise muted look of the chairs and carpet.
A splash of colour, something different!
This is our seating area. Plush arm chairs and cushion seats. Very comfortable! I had an armchair to myself! Hee hee.
Then the starters started to arrive altogether! That’s the Hearthy Platter to Share with potato sticks, cheese sticks, salmon nuggets, wontons and drumlets. However, I found this dish mediocre because they taste like those frozen bites you can get at the supermarket.
The accompanying Thai chilli sauce was good tho.
Next up, the Shrimp Paste Chicken winglets. Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside.
This is the Soup of the Day, which the monster says is Soup of the Days because it’s ALWAYS the Soup of the Day. Hahahahaha.
It’s damn good though, so I’m not complaining. The garlic bread was good too. Crispy and the garlic seasoning was just right.
The last of the starters, Caesar Salad. Fresh Romaine lettuce, smoked duck, bacon bits, croutons, cheese and quail eggs. Yummy goodness in a bowl!
The serving counter. On the left is the kitchen and on the right, VIP rooms for private functions. When we went that day, the rooms were packed with diners celebrating Mothers’ Day in advance. Cool.
There were these fabulously tall chairs too if you can see. They look really cool. But actually I think it would be quite uncomfortable to be sitting in them.
While we were still trying to finish the starters (so many!), the mains arrived.
This is the Mediterranean Chicken Roulade, which Kun Yuan ordered. Kun Yuan is Zhenting’s brother, who joined us for dinner that day. And whom Karen called as Chun Yuan. Hahahahaha.
The US Black Angus Ribeye steak which was perfect! I ordered mine in medium well and it turned out damn good.
The beef was tender and juicy, not too thick but “solid” enough for you to feel it in your mouth.
Sauce was well done too, not too salty, just nice! And the accompanying asparagus and baby carrots were fresh! Although I would think that boiling the baby carrots for a while would have made it a 10/10.
Potato wedges were crispy on the outside, sprinkled with spices and “squashy” on the inside. You know how some wedges are empty on the inside? These are solid potato wedges. Yum!
And this is Karen’s Deep Ocean Catch Seafood with fresh prawns, squid and garlic mashed potato.
The presentation’s great right? Like some atas fine dining restaurant like that. With that splosh of sauce at the side. Haha.
Took more photos while waiting for our desserts. We happily thought that the monster went to the kitchen to order for us, but turns out he went to chit chat with the chefs. Uh. So we were waiting for nothing!
-_-”
Little Miss Chatterbox and Fat Person.
I’m so going to get karma for this. I keep saying Karen is fat. Hahahahaha. I’m getting fat too. Time to eat less and walk more!
Karen’s wearing the tee I got for her from Bangkok!
In case you couldn’t see the words clearly.
Funny right!
And that is the photo that appears when she calls or when I try to call her. Hahahahaha.
And yours truly, me. Wearing specs because I was preparing for the evaluation (2 days after the dinner) and that’s the brother’s hand.
Finally the desserts arrived!
We had the American cheesecake. Very good! Creamy but just nice. And the presentation is as usual, well done!
And that’s the Chocolate Truffle. Which is not very nice. Bleargh. The texture is like chocolate pudding gone wrong. And the whipped cream lao hong. Not nice!
Anyhoos, we discovered a fusball (foosball?) machine above the restaurant while looking for the Ladies.
Hahhahaha, we ended having a ball of a time (pun intended) until we nearly didn’t want to go back down.
When we got back to the table, we told the guys about it and they were like, “Ok, let’s go and play!”
The games are FOC of course, it’s a club house thing.
Oh, the bill came up to nearly $200! Wah, scary.
But we ordered quite a lot and there were 5 of us.
The monster had 50% off because the restaurant belongs to the same company that he’s working for, so yeah, staff discount!
It was a good meal, so paying $100 for the 5 of us was quite worth it!
So if you’re in the vicinity, go try it out!
