Speakers Cornered screens in public

Audience at the Substation Arts Centre during the Q&A session

Speakers Cornered, passed clean by the Board of Film Censors in April, finally received its first public screening yesterday at the Substation Arts Centre. The screening was part of the Singapore Short Cuts, an annual local short film festival presented by the Substation and supported by the Singapore National Museum and the Singapore Film Commission.

The 28 minute documentary capped a matinee of films that included Twogether by Victric Thng, Bedok Jetty by Boo Junfeng and Caramel / 黑默糖 by Kelvin Ke. Blank Rounds, a film about National Service, was withdrawn by its director Green Zeng due to a change in screening venue. An insider scoop has it that the yesterday's screening was originally slated to be held at the much larger National Museum Gallery Theatre, but was moved to the Substation theatre fo[...]

Crazy is ...

Not the thousands and thousands of people swarming the Night Festival last night, but the fact that somebody decided Sunday would be a good time to run a loud motor all day to slice up the tree that they chopped down on Friday. (They have to slice it up into more manageable chunks so that they can transport the lumber away.)

Meanwhile, I'm trying to catch up on writing because I only cranked out twenty words instead of a thousand yesterday, and they were twenty crappy words that I promptly deleted today.

Sunday = day of rest? Not likely.

Farewell, And Thanks For All The Fish

thoughts on leadership

Last Friday, I held a department meeting where I told the bunch of staff that we (the company) had managed to hire a new manager and he would be reporting for work on Monday, so I would not be their boss any longer.

After 2.5 months of serving as acting manager of their department, I thanked them for their hardwork and support. The fact that everything ran pretty smoothly and no major disasters happened showed that we had managed to pull through a rather difficult patch together through teamwork.

Shortly after the meeting, the team leaders came to see me privately and expressed their sadness at my departure. Apparently they tremendously enjoyed my Cowboy Method of making as many decisions as fast as possible. Although I didn’t manage to solve all their problems, I had probably closed 6 out of every 10 issues, leaving the department in a better shape than it originally was whe[...]

life IS….never THe the Way….

July 2008

Am not exactly in the best of mood since Thursday evening. Life does spring its little surprises when you least expect it. Yeah, hell yeah, I am relieved that I don’t have to deal with that burdensome no career development job. But I guess, I am disappointed nonetheless that my expectation came true in the end. I think its just creepy, that my gut instinct somehow almost never fail me. Nonetheless, when the scenario that I replayed countless times in my head came true, it was still a hard pill to swallow. But, perhaps am less embittered than the others? Gosh, not too sure about that but heck, its happened and really the best is to move on and close the chapter. I am really grateful for the concern and care shown my way but I feel alone still. I can’t quite explain or pinpoint it, but its like you could have all the love in the world and yet you feel empty inside. Well, somet[...]

Ballet Under The Stars

Random Musings

Went to watch Ballet Under The Stars with dearie cousin and sworn cousin and her boy boy. There were so many people there. The guy on the stage gave an estimate of two thousand people !! I’m sure if we all suddenly stripped naked and started dancing, we would have made some Guinness record; the most number of people dancing naked in one place. Well.. Guinness have the darndest world records, what can i say, lol.

I guess Ballet Under The Stars was nice. Dearie cousin tried to ask me whether it was nice. And considering that i hadn’t watch much of ballets, there was little i could compare with, to say whether it was nice or not nice. It’s like me watching football. I understand the rules and how the game plays, albeit i always say, “Aiya, own goal.” and someone like Yinyin would say, “What own goal? That is the opposing team’s goal post!”

In short, i don’t get t[...]
