It is raining durian fruits in Palakkad!
Ooty: It is the season of durian fruits in Berlayar and Katteri regions of Palakkad districts now. Wherever you go, whether it is on the roadside or markets, one can see the fruits piled up for sale. The horticulture farms in the region too are filled with the fruits. The fruit costs Rs 1000 for kg at present. The season for durian is typically from July to September. Durian is native to Malaysia and is believed to have medicinal values. Since the demand is high for the fruit, most of the people book for it in advance. It was the British who first planted the durian trees in the Nilgiris. In Southeast Asia, the fruit is known as the ‘king of fruits’.
