Rude voluntary worker in Orchard This incident happened on 5th May 2008 and I decided to voice out my views regarding this issue. Me and my friend were looking at the directory in Ngee Ann city when one voluntary worker holding a donation bag suddenly appeared in front of us and said " Hi, can you speak English"? Before we could answer his question, he continued with what he wanted to say. He explained and showed us the beneficiary group of the donation, but he seemed to be in a rush..So about 30 seconds of explanation, I still couldn't see who exactly was the beneficiary group. Anyway, he asked us if we wanted to make a donation, so my friend took out a $1 coin from her wallet and tried to put into the slot of that donation bag. Surprising, the guy stopped her and he immediately placed the donation bag upside down. I couldn't understand him at first, then he said "This bag can't hold any coins because the coins would dropped out, so donations can ONLY be made in NOTES". Then i was like, "HUH? WHY?" My friend was kind of confused too and she kept her $1 coin and took out a $2 note and slot it into the bag. I was a little pissed off by that moment so I asked him "I thought donations were supposed to be made willingly at any amount and why can't the bag hold coins"? I mean its not as if that he will be carrying the donation bag upside down for the rest of the day. To my surprise again, his answer for my question really made my blood boil. He just answered abruptly "Oh, please don't ask me, I'm just a volunteer". Then he disappeared after saying this sentence. I felt it was very rude of him to not even explain the question raised to him, even if he doesn't know how to explain, but at least tell me in a proper manner and at least say thanks and walk off. Basically, he is asking people for a favour, the more donation he get from people the better. Therefore i guess being polite is the basic rule. I understand donations are important for many beneficiary groups, but I feel that they shouldn't limit the donors of the amount they can donate. Although $1 or $2 isn't a very big amount, but given his attitude, it makes us feel that its not worth to donate. easySafe - Your unique key to security FAST easySafe is the only hardware cryptography product available in the market with unique features. The food is donated by Chinese temples in her ward, which is in Ang Mo Kio GRC. But rising food prices have seen a 'sudden surge' in the number of people turning up for the gifts, doubling to more than 70 constituents. 'It could be that more know about this, but two weeks ago, I had to tell them to come on alternate weeks so there will be enough,' she said, adding that many are new faces. MP Baey Yam Keng is seeing a similar situation in his Queenstown ward, which is part of Tanjong Pagar GRC. 'Many familiar faces are coming more often for food vouchers, about once a month compared to once in two months before,' he said. Missing bag at BK Hey guys, just thought I would share this with everybody.I went to burger king raffles city to have my dinner with my friend on 17/03/08. usually, she will stay and look after our stuff while I would go and get the food. But that particular day, of all days, she wanted to go along with me.Thinking that there were a bunch of students (about 8 of them) sitting just beside us and with quite a considerable crowd in the restaurant, we went off leaving our bags on the chairs to get our food. In just about 10 min, we return to the table, with horror to find that my bag was MISSING!! When we asked the bunch of students, all of them claimed that they didn't see anyone coming to our table. We were not satisfied. We asked the other guests at the restaurant and some of them admitted that they saw an Indian couple taking the bag. They were even able to relate the whole event to us.But none actually bothered to stop them! Their reason for not stopping the couple? Because they thought the couple were our relatives! Why would our relatives take one of our bags and leave? Seriously wondering the level of intellect these people are having. We went on to call the police but no one wanted to be our witness. Are Singaporeans really so unhelpful these days? And all the police could say was, "You shouldn't have left your stuff unattended." Yeah, perfect timing for a lecture.I lost my psp and hp due to this theft. But I also learnt some valuable lessons..1) don't leave your things unattended even for a short while and especially in fast food restaurants.2) don't expect (most) Singaporeans to be helpful3) and the most important lesson of all, I will be on high alert for such things and help those people around me. I don't want them to go through what I went through.Everyone has a part to play in security. I believe that everyone can make a difference. Rude driver Submitted by Lawrence:"Met this very rude driver during lunch time today. didn't manage to get his photograph. All i managed to get was his car. We were waiting for a parking lot and found one with the driver about to move off. Moved my car forward (with hazard lights on) to allow the car out of the lot ...and this rude driver just slot his car in the lot without any other thoughts. One of my passengers confronted him and told him we had been waiting for the lot...he just replied matter-of-factly that he was waiting for the lot as well and just walked off. The guy was probably in his 30s, in a shirt and pants....cannot believe the rudeness of people nowadays. Really spoiled my day after running into this rude driver. Please post this and the pics on your site to let him know this kind of rudeness is uncalled for!" I won a battle against Nokia Submitted by Tomorrow Reader:"I finally won the battle against Nokia Pte Ltd.I bought a Nokia phone in Aug 2007 through Starhub with 24months contract at $388.The phone was not functioned properly in the very first week. I tried to ask for a one to one exchange and was replied, "Nokia has no such policy". I got no choice but to send to Nokia Care Centre for repair.Between Aug 2007 and Nov 2007, countless of visitation and many phone call were made to Nokia. So much time was wasted but the phone was getting from bad to worst.I gave warning to Nokia that I was considering to file a claim against them through Small Claim Tribunal. I finally took action as there was no proper follow up from Nokia after one month.Nokia authorized a young girl to come for the first consultation and then in default of attending before the Tribunal for the rest.I finally won the case and was awarded $778 by Small Claim Tribunal in 18 Dec 2007.Nokia was given 15 days to make the settlement, but they did not respond to me.I called to check about it on 22 Jan 2008, and Nokia said that they did not receive such notice.I went to their HQ the next day, after presenting the Order of Tribunal to the Manager, he finally agree to pay. However, Nokia would pay me if only I agreed to sign a conditional letter. They wanted to keep my mouth shut and I was not allowed to disclose this claim to any third party. I refused as they had no right to impose any condition because this was not an out of court settlement.I then applied for WSS (Writ of Seizure and Sale) the next day. An appointment date was scheduled on 11 Feb 2008.I accompany the bailiff officer to Nokia HQ. Nokia was then given two options by the bailiff officer. One was to make settlement and the other one was let the bailiff officer to sticker their movable assets. They finally woke up and agree to make payment. By then, they got to pay $1,018.43 instead of $778.By sharing this experience, I hope that many have a better idea of what to do if encounter similar situation in the future. Many of us wouldn’t want to take the trouble to make such claim. Some may have no time, and some may think that Nokia is such a big company and no point goes against them. The Relations Manager of Nokia, Ms Serene Teo, told me that I won’t be able to win the case and the most I could only get back $388. This was what she believed, but she was wrong." Stuff that CEO business card into their mouth the next time you see them years later." CALL it a disheartening start to the new school year. A group of 27 girls in a Secondary 5 class in a mission school - which shall remain unnamed - were advised by their principal on the first day of school last week to seek transfers to the Institute of Technical Education (ITE), since they were unlikely to do well in the O levels this year. To back her point, she even flashed the girls' detailed N-level grades on the board in class using an overhead projector; she also stressed that she wanted 100 per cent passes in her school. The result: teens with punctured self-confidence and some fuming parents. The girls, who had done well enough in last year's N-level examinations to get to Sec 5, were looking to repeat their good performance at the O levels this year and move on to the polytechnics. Those with strong N-level results had a new option this year: They could have skipped Sec 5 and headed for higher-level technical courses at ITE, but the deadline for applications closed on Jan 2."
