I am over here, thank you. So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish Hi Everyman and everyone!  This will be the last time [I hope], so do bear with me. From somewhere unknown [everything was deleted in a fit of anger after a heated disagreement with Ichitaka some 800 years ago and I have no records of it], to blogspot, to this wordpress account last year which I have grown really fond of, to the new one at: http://starmist.liquidblade.com/, shoutout of thanks to silly Cowboy and Uncle Mandy. So what changes in the new place? 1) Writing style may differ a little. Considering how zen and fuss-free my life has become, there will be lesser emo posts [for now]. 2) More interesting randomness, because things happening to and around me are all so varied. 3) More protected posts, since ’starm|st’ nick = easy to find me = more visibility = feels more naked and exposed. Feel free to contact me for p/w via email. What stays the same? 1) Me! But plus qu’hier moins que demain. 2) Camwhoring photographs as usual. 3) My loves, my friends, my dog [right, like I really have one]. As usual, take me seriously when it is time to be serious, and don’t take my words for all they are when it isn’t time for it. My blog may be me, but I am not all that my blog is. Please update your links, peeps! Arigatou gozaimasu! $7,980 We can come in ones or twOs, We are the best and thus, cOstly. I have an apple and you have two, You give me an apple and I have one. I eat one apple, and give one back to you. I don’t have any apples, you still have two. With Tomoyuki accompanying us to Fuda station, we set off early on Saturday to catch our train to Hachinohe [we were re-routed to Hachinohe and Hakodate then Sapporo as the direct train to Sapporo was fully-booked]. Tiring but mmm that means more adventures for us! The heavy brown paper bag contained all my prrrrreeecciioouusss [stuff from Ghibli Museum and my snow globe]! It was raining in Hachinohe when we got there, and the wind was strong. Brrr. With 5 hours to spare before our next train ride to Hakodate [all the names are a mouthful!], sister and I got on a bus heading to a local shopping centre - Lapia. Or so we thought it was heading there. My kiddy meal, ‘cos I wasn’t sure if I was hungry or full. Ahem. 550 yen! “What a cold, grey, dreary place Hachinohe is!” said sister mournfully. How true. Everything was in shades of grey and white and black, saved for the tomato car and markings on the road. Anyway, as adventures go, we ended up at the local marketplace instead. People queuing for sushi and sashimi. Stuck, we decided to make use of the time to walk around and shop for more useless unique stuff, and that was when we discovered a treasure trove of…. apples. The marketplace has everything and anything apple-ish; apple tea, apple chocolates, apple toys, the list goes on. Twilight apple-zone.  Due to the amazing array of apple products at every turn, I started nicknaming Hachinohe ‘Appletown’ [that, and because I had trouble remembering and differentiating Hachinohe from Hakodate. Ahem. Somehow my brain shut down automatically upon hearing any Japanese words with more than 3 syllables]. Well, it IS Appletown! Sister agrees with me! Right, right, right? With time on our hands and not enough time to head to Lapia, sister and I made our way back to the station, where we shopped at -can you believe it - whatever convenience stores we could find around the area [which came up to maybe about 1638 stores]. Not sure about sister but I felt quite nomadic. Poor homeless, cold creatures we were. More apples! Roll over and faint. Was tempted to cart all these beautiful boxes back home! Look at the various apple toys! Sister and I got the stuffed toy keychains on the left of the picture. It was not long before the sky turned dark and it was time for Hakodate! After meeting some people for coffee at Science Park post-workshop ["Welcome to Geekland, where geeks roam free without getting stoned and speaking in l33t is encouraged," said him when I commented on the state of the place], I made my way home on the bus when a man sitting behind me started picking up another man. “Take peektures!! Blog it!!” said BFF, very 38-ly, when I smsed him about it. Indian man cornered the other by casually asking for the time and then moving in veeeeerrryyyy close to the man, like face-to-15cm-apart-face-close [not shown in picture obviously since I missed the moment]. Indian man went as far as to touch and caress the other’s thigh repeatedly and nudge his leg suggestively against his. The other man started crossing his arms in defense and inching to the corner but was still polite. A quiet moment. Perhaps he was contemplating his next move? They were still on the bus when I got down half-hour later. I wonder what happened next. Two Random two [edited]. 2nd week.  .. and I am already clocking 12 hours a day. *cries* There goes any form of social life. *cries more* 2 kids.  Was having dinner when this lil kid of kindy age came up, asking me if I would like to buy his chinese newspapers. I scanned around the cafeteria. He was alone. He was alone, he looked tired and uncomfortable, and his speech sounded like he is suffering from severe hearing loss [but methink it is more likely to the lines of no proper schooling and teaching, thus sounding so delayed]. Where are his parents? I wondered. Did they make use of him to garner sympathy for money? Or are they busy working elsewhere and needed him earn a little more to survive? I was angry, and not just a little sad. Told myself not to jump to conclusions. For some reason, I was reminded of this kiddo I saw in Melbourne. Daddy put him on a leash, like a dog. Urgh. A Spot of Bother Just a short wee one for now. Tired and blank. Sister’s picture compilation. After our [mis]adventures in Asakusa, we headed over to the second ‘A’ - Akihabara. Two nights before, I went online to email [and to check for other emails] Ahdai requesting the normal price of a DS lite in Sg. Kikuchi was telling us that one costs about 12 000 yen in Nihon. That translated to about only SGD157! So cheap! Whee! I also remembered NaiveGuy wanting a HD from Akihabara but before I could email him asking him more about it, the computer hung. -__-” Sorry, NG! Sister was very amused because I refused to call Akihabara by its full name. Instead, I kept referring it as ‘the other A’, reason being… I couldn’t remember the name and thus couldn’t pronounce it. Ahem. Repeat the tongue-twister over and over again as fast as you can - akihabara akihabara akihabara [the pronunciation of ‘R’ is more likely to that of ‘L’]. Beautiful leather clothes for Ixus [in Nihon, they are called Ixy] cameras! Everything in Nihon was about packaging packaging packaging. We went to the camera section floor as sister was looking for a camera case to replace her literally-disintegrating-falling-apart one and we ended up wanting to buy a camera [sister], a camera case [me] and other camera accessories [both of us]. See. Nihon and its evil places. Let’s play Naruto! Kage bunshin no jutsu! We left the place without getting my DS. 20 minutes was spent trying to communicate with the salesman about the DS and whether it can be used in Sg [charging system, language, games, etc] but he was curt with me. It was probably due to the language barrier; we were like chicken and duck communicating. O, bother. The queues were this long and crowded all. the. time. We headed over to Shinjuku next to meet up with sister’s floorball friend, Keiko, and her mystery boyfriend [also from the Japan Men’s floorball team]. Shinjuku station has like, 38472 exits and I was surprised when sister managed to catch Keiko at one of the exits. Keiko and her boyfriend, Tomoaki, thoughtfully pre-booked a place at a hotel restaurant for dinner - Asian Kitchen, but we had trouble locating it, even with Tomoaki’s GPS. So we ended up walking a looooooong way around Shinjuku first. Argh, my legs! Keiko informed us that a japanese variety show is filmed in Studio Alta [above picture] every week. Pretty pretty lights! This ‘Love’ was made famous when it was featured in one of the Japanese dramas [which I can’t remember the name at the moment]. Dinner! Sister’s picture compilation. Seriously. That was the biggest parfait I have even seen and eaten. Look how it reached my chin! The 4 of us finished about 3/4 of the entire thing before we gave up. Tomoaki gave up first. Hiak hiak. Asian Kitchen apparently gives away free parfaits to people who visit the place for a meal the same month as their birthday months. None of us were December babies, but Keiko introduced sister and I [to the waiter who served us] as friends from Singapore and they presented us with the free parfait after dinner! Wow! Sister’s picture compilation. Miserable story of our Nihon lives. It was raining steadily when we finished dinner, adding to the winter cold. We awkwardly splashed our way to Tokyo Tower, weighed down by the rain [has anyone ran in a soaking wet wool coat before? it’s heavy yah!]. Halfway to the tower, Tomoaki ran ahead of us to a convenience store and got us umbrellas and cans of hot drinks. So sweet and thoughtful! After a group picture at the train station, the 4 of us headed back to our respective homes, cold, wet and wiped out. In his drunken state, he signed a document granting the British Empire possession of Temasek, a handover that greatly annoyed all the other colonies and the Empire as a whole. Britain paid minimal attention to Temasek, even going so far as to allow casual day in Temasek when India was refused it till 1934. Unable to correctly pronounce “Temasek”, Raffles motioned to rename the island “Snog A Wh*re”. After the proposal was rejected three times by the British parliament, Raffles eventually relented and renamed the island Singapore. NC18 I am very ill. He is very hungover-ed. I don’t know how she did it. Sister’s picture compilation. As our activities drew a parallel to an Amazing Race schedule, sister and I had very. little. sleep. throughout our four days in Tokyo [thinking back, I wonder how we managed to survive]. Candid shot by sister. Bed. Sleep. Night. Sleep is good. We had to cancel the first night in Sapporo as we couldn’t get the Shinkansen tickets for the day we wanted. Plan B was to stay a night in Hakodate before heading to Sapporo. So during our 3rd night at Tomoyuki’s place, sister stayed up til 1.30am looking for accommodations online for Hakodate [I abandoned her at 12+pm to sleep. Too exhausted. Oops.]. Poor sister. I don’t know how she managed it… because we had to wake up at 4.15am [that’s freakin’ 3.15am Sg time] the same morning to get to Tsukiji Fish Market! Too tired and cold to smile properly. Too tired and cold to even smile. Misadventure 1: Upon reaching Tsukiji Fish Market, all we saw were a handful of men wheeling their fishes away. The activities had ended! >. Misadventure 2: We decided to have breakfast at a nearby shop which had a wonderful smell of food wafting out from it. However, the queue crawled by so s.l.o.w.l.y we left after more than an hour of waiting in the co-co-co-cold. Brrr. So in addition to being frozen and tired, we were also famished. *sad pathetic expression* The next stop for the day was Asakusa, Sensoji Temple. “The first A of the 3 ‘A’s,” I told sister. “What 3 ‘A’s?? There are only 2!” she corrected me. Art at the train station. “We will only be here for a short while,” sister said. Little did we know… All the people were taking their pictures here. Superpowers: levitating the huge lantern. “Oh no, another evil place,” was what I muttered to myself when I stepped through the entrance and saw all these shops. It was at Asakusa that I got many stuff for people. Handphone chains, food, magnets, yadda yadda. And a beautiful snow globe for myself! My cammie battery died just after the Tsukiji Fish Market non-experience and the photos for the rest of the day were taken using the mobile phone. Yep, the most popular functions of the mobile for the 2 weeks were the camera and calculator. Laughs. Though my mobile and the sim card were 3G, it couldn’t be used in Nihon, so I was cut off from everyone, which was, surprisingly, a welcoming relief, though inconvenient at times. So I am sorry, I did not manage to get any of your messages, no, not even after I returned to Singapore. After our non-existent breakfast at Tsukiji Fish Market, sister and I were ravenous and thus bought some traditional candy from the first food store we came across. I aimed my mobile cammie non-too-subtly at her and she smiled in return. A Singaporean seller may scream profanities at me. Or something. More food! The packagings were all so nice! Temptation galore. This shop was selling delicious pumpkin snacks. Oshii! We went back for seconds. I would visit it again should I ever go to Asakusa again. Misadventure 3: We were in a shop with me choosing a pair of earrings for myself and there was some loud chatter going on with the shop owner and two men. Sister came by and whispered, “I think there is a celebrity here. Over there, over there, by the corner.” We crept by stealthily like ninjas and peeked past a shop shelf. I was about to take a secret picture when the handsome supposed-celebrity looked over at us [major OOPS], and they ‘escaped’ through the back door. Ahem.  starm|st and Mango go to Nihon and harass scare people away. We finally reached the temple! And I was still holding onto the pumpkin thingie. A quick shot before we move on. And still holding onto my pumpkin thing. Apparently breathing in the scent or something to that effect will bring you good luck. Everybody was doing it, so I joined in. *gasp choke splutter splutter sour face* Throw some coins in and pray for..anything. I have no idea what these were, but they were pretty, so let’s camwhore! Misadventure 4: I’d wanted to try my luck hand in reading my fortune, and this was what happened.   I think most people have already seen it via Caoswsbhoayt’s entry. -_-” And this happened when he dedicated an entire entry to me. The usual 100+ - 200+ unique readers a day [was neglecting the blog so readership went down] as opposed to, well, guess how many hundreds there were on the day when he linked me. Kill me please. Anyway. Sister and I forgot about the whole fortune-telling incident until our first day in Osaka when I replayed it. A part of the prediction actually came true! FREAKY MUCH??!? It was getting cold so we headed to the indoor bit of Asakusa. Pretty! It looked as though sakura flowers were falling from the ceiling. I have lost count the number of times we ate at weird timings. Oh, and the number of times we ate ramen as well. We escaped the evil-place-which-made-us-spend-a-lot that is Asakusa and were mulling over our next stop when my eyes fell on something familiar… … we were standing just outside a shop that sells Miyazaki’s stuff! *little scream* In we went, for a long long time. So much for spending a short while at Asakusa. Hur hur. At the bottom of the picture, you can see Totoro in different positions. The entire display will spin and you can see, on the mirrored reflections, Totoro ‘moving’ in play. A hastily, secretly taken photograph. Lurve the brolly! All the fluffballs in the brolly are so kawaii! I didn’t buy it ‘cos we still have Sapporo, Kyoto and Osaka to go to! Can someone please get the brolly for me?? Next stop, Akihabara and Shinjuku [which we didn’t manage to go on the first day]!  Other Nihon Reads: The Amazing Race [Nihon Version] Meet The Katenas Let’s Become Lost Children Together Disneysea Part I Disneysea Part II Open The Floodgates the bright light shone on his cheeks, creating grooves and shadows across his face as he swayed to the music. his jacket swished around gently, his fingers clamped confidently onto the microphone as he led the rest in singing. i stood a distance away from the stage, looking, no, staring unblinkingly at him. it felt as though someone punched me hard in my stomach. my mind whirled days weeks months past, crazily shakily back and forth the mobius strip. he looks exactly like how i imagine you will look in three years’ time. i wonder what you are doing right now; if you are smiling in your sleep, or in your car driving somewhere, if you are having a meal indoors safe from the rain, if you are holding or being held, if you are being loved. what a change two hours brought in me - and in those hidden moments there resides a pain from the past, the intensity slashes through my self bringing back all the heartbreak the memories the tears. i think i was there but i was not. there was the speaker, there was my friend, and there were all the people. i was there yet i was not, and it was because of you, him, you, up there on the stage. today service hurts so bad, in such a different way. Disneysea was our stop for the 3rd day in Tokyo. I was bouncing around in excitement at the prospect of taking scary thrilling rides and being immersed in the Disney fun. Sister was much calmer though, since she has already visited 2 Disneylands and was probably just entertaining my want of a Disneyland/sea. Our train rides took 2 hours - from Fuda station to Tokyo station, then to Maihama via the Keiyo line. -_-” The special train ticket. Yippee! Lalalala~ We were wasting too much time outside. The obligatory Disneyland picture. This was as far as we went as our plan was Disneysea. Before heading to Nihon, I gave myself 2 ‘rules’ to abide by - 1) to buy many nice clothes from Japan, and 2) NOT to buy any cutsey [pinkish] useless stuff. Needless to say, I broke the 2 rules. Terribly. Horribly. FAILED. *red blinking lights* Disneysea was one of the places which I got many stuff which I would normally not buy even have taken a second look at. Nihon is an EVIL place, I tell ya. One of the evil shops. Tick, tock, tick, tock. Why were we still a-wasting time outside?? Another evil shop. Thankfully I had sufficient willpower to resist the Dark Side of Purchasing. The first sight in Disneysea. Sister was fascinated by the sweets. I was all ready for the rides but all we saw was this. And this. And this. And this. Where were all the rides?? O rides, rides, whereforth are thou, Rides? Finally! The harmless-looking Aquatopia ride which got sister and me all dizzy. Hur hur. The Raging Spirits ride - exciting much? 360-degrees loop! Wheeee! Next up was Sinbad’s Storybook Voyage. It was not a thrilling ride but magical and wonderful nonetheless. The start of our sea voyage. The Giant towered over everyone. Moving on, walking on. I do not know where we were at this point in time. At the same lost place. The inside was a restaurant. The queues for the rides were all crazily loooonnng. While waiting at the Magic Lamp Theatre queue, sister and I wasted no time and we planned our Disney route to conquer the rides. I wanted to go on the carousel [very Turn Left, Turn Right, you know] but it was forgotten after we finished the Magic Lamp Theatre experience. The crowd. One of those camwhoring pictures for the album. Us in our 3d effects glasses. Aladdin. Mermaid Lagoon. All the harmless-looking rides got sister and me all dizzy. -__-” We stumbled drunkenly out of the cabin after the ride. Ahem. This ride in Mysterious Island proved to be the most heart-pounding ride in Disneysea. I lurve it!! It was early evening by the time we reached ‘Journey to the Center of the Earth’ and just about everyone else was there as well. Fire and brimstone. The whole Disneyworld. After a rushrushrush for the ‘20 000 Leagues Under the Sea’ ride, we joined the rest of the Disneyworld by the harbour to watch BraviSEAmo!, a dramatic tale of a graceful ’spirit of water’ and a powerful ’spirit of fire’ which used music, fountains and fiery effects. All was calm. The water dance began. The dragon rose from sleep. The beautiful lady arrived to calm the beast. Sparks flew. More fiery sparks. Here comes the fireworks! The fireworks were really far away. Sister suspected it was shared between Disneysea and Disneyland. Didn’t managed to take many nice fireworks shots. Disneysea was not quite what I expected so at some point in time, I was bored [like the first vidz in the next entry], but it was an experience nevertheless! Shall try Disneyland the next time round. Other Nihon reads: The Amazing Race [Nihon Version] Meet The Katenas Let’s Become Lost Children Together Pure Last Thursday, I ‘dragged’ KK to Prive for the official launch of Dominic’s charity coffee table book titled ‘Pure’. Inspired by his late, altruistic mother, Dom decided to honour her memory by putting his energy [and talent, if I may add] into a project he feel would capture the real spirit of charity, and thus the idea of Pure was born.  Pure is a 50-page coffee table-sized photography book featuring well-known personalities such as Michelle Chia, May & Choy, Jaymee Ong, Utt and Ploy J., Charmaine Harn, Rebecca Tan and Celina Lin, laughing or crying in the nude. The personalities are part of a list of over 20 local and regional individuals who, ignited by Dominic’s passion for the project, have volunteered to bare all in this first-of-its kind coffee-table photography book. 100% of the sale of the books will go towards supporting various organisations such as SCW, Singapore After-Care Association and HOME, to name a few. The launch was a well-organised and classy affair. There were a crazy number of good-looking people [all the models and celebrities -_-”] and even a crazier amount of alcohol going around. I couldn’t find cousin [as we jokingly call each other] amidst the crowd so KK and I decided to stay out by the sea for a little while before wading back into the place. At the edge of Prive, and looking extremely tired [which I was]. One section of the crowd. Some of the photographs on display. Erm. Hope this is allowed! We finally found Dom later into the night and I only managed to catch a few words with him before having to head off. The night was young and we could eat drink and make merry but we were tired. Can I forget—canst thou forget, When playing with thy golden hair, How quick thy fluttering heart did move? Oh! by my soul, I see thee yet, With eyes so languid, breast so fair, And lips, though silent, breathing love. When thus reclining on my breast, Those eyes threw back a glance so sweet, As half reproach’d yet rais’d desire, And still we near and nearer prest, And still our glowing lips would meet, As if in kisses to expire. And then those pensive eyes would close, And bid their lids each other seek, Veiling the azure orbs below; While their long lashes’ darken’d gloss Seem’d stealing o’er thy brilliant cheek, Like raven’s plumage smooth’d on snow.
