Results of 5th Annual Asian Festival of First Films
Sorry for the late report.. One month late exactly.. Here's the press release and list of winners if you have not read about it yet. Happy New Year. :)------------------------------------------------The Asian Festival of First Films (AFFF), the world’s premier film and documentary festival celebrating first-time film makers, announced the winners of the festival on 4 December at the Raffles Hotel Ballroom at a glittering awards night dinner. The week-long search ended with Japanese film, ‘Looking for Anne’, the story of a 17-year-old Japanese girl on Prince Edward Island with a secret mission to find her recently deceased grandmother’s first love, a Canadian war veteran who gave her the book “Anne of Green Gables” years ago. ‘Looking For Anne’ won Best Film and Best Director. And first-time producer, Sona Jain, bagged 4 awards for her story of a family, seen through the eyes of their child. Six year old Shruti feels disconnected from her mother and withdraws into her own fantasy world where she believes her mother is an alien. Both the film’s main child leads, first-time actress Sriharsh Sharma Churai and first-time actor Zoya S. Hasan captivated the jury with their heartrending depictions of a family caught up in its own tragedy. The gala awards night was attended by the movers and shakers of the film industry, including for the first time in Singapore, Chris Lee, Producer of Superman: Man of Steel, Malcolm Young (Managing Director/Executive Producer, NYU Tisch Asia School of the Arts), Wolfgang Muench (Dean Faculty of Media Arts, Lasalle College of the Arts Singapore), Juan Foo (Executive Producer, Shooting Gallery Motion Pictures) and ambassadors and chancellors from the Asia Pacific from the Embassy of the Australia, Britain, Canada, Malta, Pakistan, the Philippines. An international jury made up of distinguished personalities who specially flew in for the festival were also present. Jury members include award winning filmmakers and internationally-acclaimed producers Ana Kokkinos (Australia), a multi-award winning filmmaker from Australia, Chris Lee (Hawaii), notable film producer of blockbusters Superman Returns and SWAT, and Kabir Khan (India), the AFFF’s Best Director winner in 2007 and multi-award winner for his incisive portrayals of the historical milestones of our time. The event was hosted by Singaporean Lavinia Tan.More than 30 nominee-hopefuls flew in to attend the glamorous occasion, including first-time director Takako Miyahira (Japan) of ‘Looking for Anne’, Kaushal Oza (India) of ‘Vaishnav Jan Toh…’, Seema Kohli (India) of ‘Swayamsiddha’, Saqib Mausoof (Pakistan) of ‘Kala Pul’, Rita Hui (Hong Kong) of ‘Dead Slowly’.In between award presentations, guests were regaled with local performances, by Singapore’s own song-writer celebrity, Dick Lee, a dramatic stunt act replete with flying stunts and somersaults by Picasso Tan’s Kuen Wushu School and local indie up and coming singer-producer, Iris Judotter.Supported by the Media Development Authority (MDA), the AFFF is a part of the annual Asia Media Festival (AMF). "The AFFF has once again shone the spotlight on budding film talent in Asia with a body of work that reflects the heart and soul of Asia. In this light, every nominee is a winner. I am confident that the AFFF will continue to bring to the fore promising talents with quality films that resonate with an international audience," says Ms Cassandra Tay, Director Communications and Community and International Relations, MDA, and the guest-of-honor for the evening.A part of the Asia TV Forum held in Singapore which brings together a global buyer network, the AFFF further propels the interests of budding regional film talent by giving them this platform to attain access to commercial interest and funding, crucial to the success of every good film and filmmaker. Over the years, the AFFF has managed to attract top film talents and international stars to be part of the festival, further enhancing Singapore’s media hub and economy.“This year’s films captivated our hearts and minds and transported us from the mud huts of Afghanistan to the Canadian countryside and the slums of Mumbai to the back alleys of Singapore. Each year, the festival grows in stature among the film circuit, and first-time filmmakers take heart that they too have a platform created specially for them where their dreams can unfold,” notes Sanjoy Roy, Festival Director.Shweta Asnani, Executive Producer of AFFF adds, “The AFFF allows budding talent in Asia to portray the diversity and depth in the stories of the region to an international audience of film professionals. My heartiest congratulations to all our nominees for taking this step into the world of filmmaking and for telling the world our stories through their eyes.”Sonia Kolesnikov-Jessop, who headed the Foreign Correspondents Association (FCA) jury for the FCA Purple Orchid Award, comments, “The overall level of entries was good but the jury felt that ‘Land Gold Woman’ from India was able to portray the dilemma that Asians cope with having to face the world and their families in a perpetual struggle between globalization and their roots.” The winning film tells about the tough choice an immigrant Indian professor in Birmingham faces, between saving his family’s name or his teenage daughter when she is found to be in an illicit relationship. For this year’s competition, a total of 700 entries were received from 28 countries. A total of 22 nominated films and documentaries view for 11 awards. Just watched the movie "Bandslam" yesterday and I really enjoyed it. I cant deny i am always fascinated with movies that involved music or dance. And I will also love them, no matter how bad. Oh well, if it involves music or dance, it cant really be that bad, right? Think "Sound of Music", "Sister Act" etc.. All are excellent movies..Now, let's enjoy one of the songs in the movie. I only remembered hearing it at the credits though. However, it reminds me of my long gone youth, somehow.. Enjoy. :)Where Are You Now - Honor SocietyTo my favorite teacherWho told me never give upTo my 5th grade crushWho I thought I really lovedTo the guys I missedAnd the girls we kissedWhere are you now?To my ex-best friendsDon´t know how we grew apartTo my favorite bandAnd sing-alongs in my carTo the face I seeIn my memoriesWhere are you now?Where are you now?Cause I´m thinking of youYou showed me howHow to live like I doIf it wasn´t for youI would never be who I amTo my first girlfriendI thought for sure was the oneTo my last girlfriendSorry that I screwed it upTo the ones I lovedBut didn't show it enoughWhere are you now?Where are you now?Cause I'm thinking of youYou showed me how,how to live like I doIf it wasnt for youI would never be who I am.And I'll never see those days againAnd things will never be that way againBut thats just how it goes,People change,But I knowI wont forget youTo the ones who caredAnd who were there from the startTo the love that leftand took a piece of my heartTo the few who´d swearI´d never go anywhereWhere are you now?Where are you now?Cause I´m thinking of youYou showed me howHow to live like I doIf it wasn´t for youI would never be who I amIf it wasn´t for youI would never be who I amIf it wasn´t for youI´d be nothingWhere are you now?

It is a very simple movie and great when you need something to relax your mind (a no-brainer type of movie). I do think that the male actor is great, especially since he is actually from a singing background. Hopefully he may win the Best Actor award.Another film I actually taken note before is Blood Ties, which is produced in Singapore. However I changed my mind to watch it at the last minute as I feel that it is a little too bloody for my taste after watching the trailer. But since it is a Singapore film, i will definitely be giving my support to it and hoping it will win all the awards it is being nominated for. :)If you are keen to watch the nominated films, they will be screened at Golden Village Marina and The Arts House from 28th November to 3rd December 2009. Tickets are available from the respective box offices and online (only Golden Village) at $10 each. Painting your face
I was watching "Guess Guess Guess" program on Ch U last Saturday and there was this section where they invited three women to attend the show showing their pre make-up faces. Once again, it really highlighted the wonders of make-up which can transform an otherwise normal face to that of a supermodel. It was also said in the show that 80% of women in Taiwan do not go out without applying makeup. The three women on the show also said that they were treated differently by their boyfriends or suitors once the men saw their real faces. So I guess this is one of the reasons why I do not really use make-up. I prefer the person to be looking within me first rather than focus on my face. If the person does not even try knowing me first, then he is really a superficial person that I could not be bother knowing as well. But then again, all men are "visual" creatures who love looking at beautiful women.Of course I cannot deny that I am also rather lazy to learn the make-up tricks, plus all the cleansing that I will need to do at the end of the day. I also need to look for cosmetics that are suitable for my oily skin as the previous foundation kept caking on my face. Or maybe I have applied them wrongly. :POh well, I know I must start learning the tricks very soon, as it is always polite to dab a little make-up when attending events or in a workplace. Of course, my current and past workplaces have always been lenient on this so I guess I will put it off for a little while again. So to all friends of mine, please bear with my plain old face for the time being. Tata and it's off to work for me now.. See ya again soon!
I love this song and piano piece from the movie, "不能说的秘密". If you haven't seen the movie, it will be broadcasted on tv tonight at 9pm. Enjoy the song for now. Piano piece

I am a crazy woman...
If you are someone living in Singapore, you will know how horrible the public transport is like during the peak hours. Huge numbers of human beings being packed like sardines in a tin can. There were times when i saw people carrying big bags that just stood in the way of all the people around. The bags are usually bulky and of a shape that was beyond the owner's frame. The thing that annoyed me was that the owner did not even bother to hold the bag closer to their bodies because it was tiring (i guess). Just hang there by all means. Extra space and also protection from the crowd.Well, it was times like these when I felt like taking a penknife and just slashed a few times over the bags. Yes, I know I sounded crazy but I am just irritated by those people who are so inconsiderate. I carried big bags too and I always tried to put them in front of me so as not to take up extra space during the peak hours. Maybe it is time for me to buy a nice penknife to do the trick. Maybe that will stop people from not taking note of their bags in the MRT. Hahaha..p.S. If you wonder why i dont blog in Mandarin recently, it's because I cant find the chinese language component on my home computer anymore. I need to find the software to install it back and I am just plain lazy. And I dont really blog in office though my office computer does has it. :P
A quote to share...
"If you think right, everything will be right" - Andrew PohWe should always think positive. After all, life isn't so bad as long as we are still alive, right? Okay, if only i can maintains these positiveness for a long while.. Heehee..

This is another Guo Jing's song that I'm trying to learn. The music and chorus are really easy to memorise. Now, I just need to learn the lyrics for the start.
Be socially responsible
If you are sick, be socially responsible by not going to work. Stay at home and rest. This will prevent the virus from spreading. Remember, there is nothing more important than our health.
I first heard her song over the radio. She really sings well, in my opinion. Below is one of her songs that I am trying to learn to sing. It really has a catchy tune. Enjoy.
Memory #1: A Bouquet of Flowers for My Lady
Found this in my drafts.. it was actually written in Sept 2006. Must have forgetten to publish it back then. Haha.. hope you will enjoy it. Happy Children's Day to all. :)-----------------------------------------I said i will share with u what i found during spring cleaning.. Look what i found in the dust...3 Bouquets of flowers (of cos they are fake ones lah.. real ones how to last for 6 years..) given to me by my beloved secondary school friends..Only one (the one with purple roses) was given by a guy, not for romance but more for asking me for my forgiveness.. Long story and a childish one so not worth going into details.. Anyway, back then, his soon-to-be-girlfriend-material gal friend, who also happened to be my good friend, suggested sending me flowers to appease my anger ( i was a volcano in sec sch..you dont want to come near me when i am angry..) and even made them for him. How do i know it was made by her and not him? Well, she confessed to me later and apologised about the poor workmanship.. I dont mind the workmanship as much as i wanted to strangle her more for making me the center of the attention of the whole class with that damn bouquet..The other two bouquets happened to be given by this same good friend a year or two later for my birthdays.. Her skill had improved tremendously by then (maybe from making the same flowers for everyone? heehee).. My favourite is the one below...Why? Cos the flowers are made of paper loh.. heeheeWith no place to keep them and not knowing how to maintain them (the whole things are covered in dust, making me sneeze a lot :p), i had to throw them away but not without taking these pics to remember them by.. Thank you, Huizhen.. For your effort and patience.. I will always remember it :p
Mayday D.N.A Singapore Concert 2009
Last month, I went for Mayday D.N.A concert held in Singapore on 28 & 29 August. Actually my initial plan was just to go for the Friday session as I didn't want to spend too much cash. But I was too touched by Mayday on Friday that I decided to go for the Saturday session. Another reason was also because I felt that the audience for Friday was not responsive enough, thus it just didn't feel so right. However, I was still pulled back by the money factor. Another hundred dollar plus was not easy for me as I am financially strapped for the moment. In fact, I was still debating whether to go or not at that very afternoon. In the end, I thought "What the heck! Just go lah. I may have to wait for a long while for the next one." So I went down to Lot 1 Sistic counter at 5pm, got the most expensive ticket at $178 (Friday one is $148) and went straight down to the Indoor Stadium alone.Madness you will say. Why will one see the same concert for twice in a row and alone on the second night somemore? If you have thought that, you most probably have not seen Mayday concert before. I definitely did not regret my decision to watch the concert again. If Friday was good for me, I will say that the Saturday was a terrific and wondrous experience. The audience was so enthusiastic and at least 90% of them were standing throughout (except for the times when the videos were being played). I didn't touch my seat at all till the last 15mins (only because Ah Shin asked us to, ok).I did make a blunder when I swung my newly bought blue light stick and the top just flew out onto the extended stage.. Whoops... I was so embarassed that I really wanted to find a hole to hide at that time.. Hahaha.. Luckily I managed to ask one of the security guards (a handsome one somemore) to take it away from the stage as I remember Ah Shin would use the extended stage one more time and I didn't want him to slip on it.I was truly sad when the concert ended. I wished it would have continue forever. In fact, I even did a fan-like thing at that end - waiting for Mayday to leave the stadium. I noticed that Mayday were quite tired when they left in the bus. I also saw Little Stone being carried to the bus by Stone.Anyway, even after one month, I am still affected. Especially after knowing how wonderful they have performed in the four concerts last week in Taiwan, I really wished I could have been there to enjoy their performances. Oh well, I guess that will be one of my dreams in the future - to watch their concert in Taiwan at least once in my life. I hope it will happens very soon.Below are some photos from the concerts, didn't take much though. ^_^Day 1Start of ConcertMe and KarenMe and Karen againLove this lighting effectAh Shin singing so emotionallyAh ShinMe at end of ConcertDay 2Me at start of ConcertMassa singing soloAudience getting highWaving the blue lightsticksThis was taken accidentally by my friend who was in the premier seats. I am such a shy gal... that I dont talk
I realise I dont like to talk alot in interviews or meetings or whatever.. I like to hear ppl talk instead.. Most of the times, it is because I dont know what to say.. And I guess I really hate selling things so much that I dont bother to sell myself off too..Do you ever go to interviews where the interviewers talk more than the interviewees? Weird right? haha.. That's what happens at all my previous interviews.. I really dont mean it.. it is just in me.. My shyness :pp.S. i wonder whether i should work part-time for some money.. i can only do it on weekends though.. hmmmm..
