Red vs. Blue is back!
If you don’t know already, Red vs. Blue was a machinima based on the game Halo. The action comedy series was filmed entirely through the game itself, and ended off with it’s Hundredth episode a while back. Now, the series has been restarted, and is now known as Red vs. Blue: Reconstruction. It starts off where episode 100 of the original series ended. The trailer may look serious, but the end of episode 1 clearly shows it will be just as fun to watch as the original series.

The best new feature in Facebook…
Facebook finally introduced a new feature that I have been waiting for them to make: The “Ignore All” button for requests!! I believe in using Facebook to keep in touch with friends and find out what’s going on in their lives, not find out what hero ability I have or how sexy I am. And I have 301 of such invitations and requests! I tried ignoring them 1 by 1 before, but there’s just too many. Thank God for the “Ignore all” button…

Hiyo, we got the same layout.
lol, I thought you were referring to real “bookmarks”!
Others clean their room during the new years, I clean my bookmarks
So how many bookmarks do you have? Well I have loads. Like hundreds. Since it’s the Chinese New Year, I thought I’d clean up my bookmarks. Yes, a totally geek moment for me…
I’m the kind of person that my dad calls “messy on the outside because you’re neat on the inside”. If you look through my hard drive, you’ll realise that every file is where it’s supposed to be, every folder means something. All my Tech65 files are in it’s own folder, with several layers of subfolders to further categorise the different files, it’s purposes and it’s type. My bookmarks are even more insane. You have to see it for yourself… That’s why I love iTunes…
I’ve spent so much time working on my bookmarks, sorting them out etc, that I use Google Browser Sync as a backup tool for my bookmark, and even sync them across my computers using firefox.
Take a look at my neat bookmarks!
Hi, my name’s Daniel, and I’m a geek…
Comment on 140Novel, the novel being written on twitter by NTT
Kevin Lim tried this out loooong time ago. I’d wanna say May last year. He invited his friends to join this twitter account and contribute 140 chars each. I don’t remember the name..
140Novel, the novel being written on twitter
This is an interesting idea. A novel written completely on Twitter. The 140 Novel is a novel being by 3 people writing a single sentence each time (That’s where the name 140 comes from, the character limit on twitter) in a single twitter account. The 3 guys are CNET’s Tom Merritt, Molly Wood and their producer Jason Howell, as well as Leo Laporte from TWiT.tv. It’s something they came up with when Leo was a guest at Tom and Molly’s Buzz Out Loud podcast epsiode 646.
It’s a pretty interesting idea. It reminded me of how when I was a kid I used to play this game called the 4 words game where we try to make a story by coming up with 4 words each. Except this time it’s 140 characters.
Do go check it out. It’s starting to become a science fiction. I think I’ll definetly be following the novel and see how it develops.
This entry was done on a Nokia E61. You have no idea how tiring it is to make hyperlinks off the top of you head…
The Tech65 Sandbox has changed again
I took a day off today from work, so I decided to finally get down and redesign Tech65.org one more time. There were problems in the previous design in our sandbox (that’s what we call the place where we play with code without affecting the actual site) that could only be fixed by completely redesigning the site. Anyway, I felt the fonts were too big.
So back to the drawing boards it was. It wasn’t so difficult this time since I already had an existing theme in mind as well as the raw photoshop file to make changes easily. Also, to save me from all that mess that was going on in the code, I decided to do this from scratch (kind of. All my designs are based on the Kubrick theme’s code) rather than editing previous versions. It was surprisingly faster than the last time I did something like this. The coding part was a lot easier too, since I was doing this from scratch. I’m quite happy with what I’ve done.
As usual, you can check it out over at our sandbox. Your feedback is greatly appreciated!
Oh, and as a special treat, here’s a look at the history (just 1 year) of Tech65 design changing with the times.
Version 2: This was a complete rebboot of the website. New database new everything. That’s when I realised I forgot to make a backup of Version 1. I worked with Zia Zek to design the website along with its colour scheme.
Version 2.5: This design was a temporary solution I came up with to put both Channel65 and 65Bits on the top after we began doing video. It’s quite an awkward design, I know, but it works. I love that iPod photo though, and I’ll probably put it somewhere in the new site.
Version 3A: This was another complete redesign I came up with. The goal was to create a site that would be expandable should there be new shows we come up with. Version 2 could only have Channel65 and 65bits, but this version was sorta modular. I could add a new block for a new section should we come up with one in the future. The problem was that this version wasn’t a blog anymore. It looked more like a corporate site. From the homepage, you could only see the latest entry from the different sections.
Version 3B: We were about to push version 3A out of the sandbox to the actual site when we realised that the site put Channel65, which wasn’t updated as often as 65bits, on the top. In fact, on a small screen, you won’t be able to see 65bits at all until you scroll. Also, I realised the fact that it wasn’t a blog anymore made the site uninteresting. So this version is like a cross between Version 3A and 2.5. Videos on one side, podcasts on the other, while still being able to be modular, i.e. future proof.
Please give me feedback on Version 3B!
Looks like I’m about to get a new iPod…
Something weird started happening to my 2 year old 5th gen iPod’s display. It started with a small spot, and within a day became a whole bunch of lines. I watch a lot of video podcasts (hey, to make good shows, you gotta watch good shows too, you know) during my free time at work, so the lines became very obvious and very distracting. The funny thing is that they disappear after the back light goes off.
I guess that means I’ll be receiving a new iPod soon (I got this one for free, a miracle, like many of the gadgets I own…) I hope it’s a 16GB iPod Touch! Thanks Abba!
P.S.: That album playing on my iPod is “Restore” by Bob Fitts. He visited our church again last Sunday and I loved his music, so I bought it.

Comment on The new MacBook Aircraft by DK
With so many people complaining abt Macbook Air lack of CD Drive and one and only one USB port, I guess this is the best solution.
The new MacBook Aircraft
This new macbook finally has a superdrive built in! And what’s that? There’s a floppy drive, 1 ethernet, 3 USB, 5 firewire, 1 DVI port and an iPod Shuffle too [!?!] Well, you complained there weren’t enough ports…
