It was morning peak on 11 Jan 2008 that I took SMRT bus 961. To my horror, one conduit cover was left hanging and swaying (as shown in the picture) throughout my trip from Farrer Road to Chinatown! As the bus was packed, some of us standing (before I sat down) in that direction tried to prevent the cover from swaying too much. Though one (very nice) passenger had tried to close the conduit cover, it was too loose to be tightened. This could be an exception case. I sincerely hope public transport companies would be more responsible in maintaining and checking the safety of their buses before running them on the road. That’s my blog appreciation talk title for the seniors / retirees conducted at RSVP or Retired and Senior Volunteer Programme, Bishan Junction 8 today. It’s a precursor of a blog course for the senior trainers whom in turn will train the other seniors. They were full of questions about the blogosphere. From the talk, I gathered that Seniors may be IT illiterate, they are eager to learn. Unfortunately, I don’t have the pictures to show. Cos, I was overwhelmed with questions that I have no time to take pictures… What a pity… Basics like the following before embedding in blogs were second nature to me: Taking, resizing and uploading pictures Searching using Google and pasting hyperlinks Finding widgets and pasting code / url However, as I talked and realised - they need to know the basics first before aggregating the fun stuff together to create an interesting post. Of course, anyone can create a blog with simply textual posts without video, audio and other widgets. But, it wouldn’t be fun to read if there aren’t pictures and videos. I hope they have fun and at least remembered how to create a blog using WordPress.com today. They have a lifetime of experience to share with the world and should leave a legacy for future generations to come! At RSVP Test These are some books bought to learn about Adobe Creative Suite 3 Master Collection. This is a test to show how to embed a youtube video. See My Dancing Monkey! How to save??? haha… Right Next to The Right One One thing about Celine Dion’s albums - I always need to listen to them at least twice before I can find a song I like. You should never listen to her songs using lousy car stereo… Like this song she sang by Tim Christensen - Right Next To The Right One. Couldn’t find her version on youtube. But, I like Tim Christensen’s version better. Like this version too What if we were meant to be together What if you were meant to be the one I could hide a million years and try to believe That any time the girl in mind will come and rescue me Cause youre the fire, youre the one But youll never see the sun If you dont know, youre right next to the right one And I could call it many names But its myself I need to blame If you dont know, youre right next to the right one In the end youve got a friend for lifetime Truly there to truly care for you I know you cry a million tears so I want you to know That a pretty face can take you places, you dont wanna go Cause youre the fire, youre the one But youll never see the sun If you dont know, youre right next to the right one And I could call it many names But its myself I need to blame If you dont know, youre right next to the right one So in the end it all depends on whether youll find Warm embraces when I replace the one you had in mind… Cause youre the fire, youre the one But youll never see the sun If you dont know, youre right next to the right one And I could call it many names But its myself I need to blame If you dont know, youre right next to the right one ——— So, are you sitting right next to the right one? Same charming eyes and smile Speed Test and Blogging using U1010 Speed using Wireless@SG on U1010  Speed using Singnet 1800 mobile broadband on U1010 Verdict: prefer mobile broadband as it does not drop when move from Singtel shop at Killiney Rd to Great World City.  Cool! Fujitsu U1010 a A5-Size Diary? Wanted to get Fujitsu U1010 (3.5) or a Kohjinsha last Thursday. Finally, decided on Fujitsu U1010 (cos U1010 - 3.5G version was reserved by M1 for its customers) at S$1,888. The box. Tada! The Fujitsu Lifebook U1010! Only 610gm and fits nicely in my handbag The package. Compare its size to my Lenovo Y410… … or my LG Viewty. Looks small and nifty, right? My key review after using it. > Very light and fit snugly like a game machine. > Tracking mouse (see the black square in the pic below) is easy to use > The 2-cell battery can only last 1.5hours if surf using Wireless@SG or the mobile broadband non-stop. My package comes with 4-cell battery too. So, I have 4.5 hours in total and would require to shut down to change the battery. However, if u lower the LCD brightness and surf Wireless@SG without any USB peripheral connected to it, the 2-cell battery life can be extended to 2.5 hours > There’s only 1 usb port for my usb mobile broadband modem. You can get a USB hub to overcome the issue. But, hey! why connect to so many peripherals if u surf on the move? I also bring along the external VGA/RJ45 port and USB hub for external presentations. > Using MS Office is fast. > Text is very small at 96dpi. I’m using 110dpi but some menu items cannot be seen. > Surfing speed and experience is better than that of Kohjinsha. > Its screen at 5.6″ is smaller than Asus Eee’s and Kohjinsha’s 7″ screen size. So, it will strain your eyes especially on a moving vehicle. > Fujitsu U1010 has 3 years warranty compare to 1 year offered by Kohjinsha Image from Fujitsu LG Viewty Review II - Video at 120fps Looks cool, right? New Singpass Login Haven’t checked my CPF account for quite a while. Pondered at this new screen… I find it tough answering 2 questions. At least pet’s name is easy. But, I have no single answer to the other questions. Why not include “Ask your own question #1” and “Answer to your question #1” with some examples included? How to install and use a USB Modem for broadband on Mobile? Finally signed up Singtel’s mobile broadband plan - 1800. Its Christmas bundle was attractive! Pay 6 months and get another 6 months (plus USB modem) free! About the Data card, you can choose to have a single Data / SIM card or 2 separate cards. If you surf on a single Data / SIM card, you cannot receive or make calls out when surfing. Before installing the software, insert the Data card or Data/SIM card into your USB modem. Use the cable with 2 USB heads and insert into your computer. You’ll be prompted with a screen to install Mobile Partner. Just click Next all the way. Installation complete! Now, use the cable with a single USB head to connect. You’ll see cyan light on the USB modem (provided by Singtel) after it has been connected successfully. Strange? 7.2 Mbps? Thought up to 1.8 Mbps? You can view your usage traffic. You can receive sms to this data card when you surf and will not be charged. But, Singtel charges you for every sms sent using the data card. I’ve yet documented my experience using M1’s broadband 1800 plan for comparison. Bye old friend! Hi new friend! Just bid farewell to my old friend yesterday. Felt so sad to trade in my old friend for a new friend. Took a last picture of it… :_( This is my new friend LG Viewty (KU990). It’s tough getting used to it as I’m more familiar with Windows Mobile 5 on Dopod D810. Sms-ing is slower using LG Viewty. Perhaps, I’m not getting used to it yet. This is the screensaver. I like its 5 megapixel camera, video functions and battery life. Will say more about them in another post. This is the customised screen when unlocked. I need to upload the pictures and videos taken with LG Viewty. Hmmm… where’re the cards? Can you spot the micro SD card and my 3G SIM card? See the ejected micro SD card after a slight push. See the size difference of the micro SD card and a normal SD card size? Old friend was using mini SD card which is twice the size of micro SD card. I’ll say what I didn’t like about LG Viewty after one day of usage: - Both micro SD card and SIM card are underneath the battery; that means I have to switch off the handphone, open the casing (good thing it’s much easier to open than other handphones), remove the battery before I can take out / replace the cards (one can argue to use the data cable provided instead of removing the micro SD card. As for the SIM card, I have no choice as the data card for broadband mobile surfing is separate - how troublesome!) - The screen protector provided. Perhaps, I don’t have the skills to paste it. So many “bubbles”. - Volume control is the aperture control ring like thing; was looking for the volume control dial… - There’s no lens cover - I missed the mobile office apps like ms excel/word and ease of sms-ing using the touchscreen keyboard on Dopod D810 - Felt and looked casual when compared to HTC TyTYN II which was my the other choice for consideration - Fingerprint marks on the screen. - There’s no wifi function Will say more about what I like about LG Viewty soon. Cool Comparison on Video Quality Looking for a new handphone to upgrade tomorrow. Eyeing on HTC TyTN II or LG Viewty cos I prefer touch screen phones like my current D810 to phones with number pads. While doing research online, I found a cool comparison video on youtube. I like how this guy did to compare handphones’ video quality. The best review I’ve seen so far as he has benchmarked N95’s 30fps video quality with HTC TyTN II and Toshiba G900’s 15fps video quality. Wish someone had done that for LG Viewty too. Here’re some slow motion video using LG Viewty. Think this guy fell in love with KU990 after buying TyTN II 3 days ago! LG Viewty Introduction HTC TyTN II or LG Viewty???!!! LG Viewty! The interior - most guests prefer alfresco Brotkorb - Basket of assorted German bread Tagessuppe aka Soup of the Day - Potato Soup that has taste of sausage in it as well Wurstelplatte - Authentic sausage platter with 6 flavours: spicy chicken, lamb sausage (has mint in it… I dislike mint), chicken and pork cheese cracker sausage (my favourite! the thin brown ones on the left), weisswurst sausage (quite good too… the big fat white sausage - third from the left) and garlic sausage with sauerkraut, horseradish and mustard Damage and Restaurant Details - HSBC and Amex card holders get 15% off the total bill. Perhaps, nobody really cares. Yellow means key places in the airport while Blue means the services. That also explains why the yellow text is on top of blue text.  Megumi Japanese Restaurant It’s rare that Pooh could pick me up from work at 5.30pm on Friday. He always busy with projects.
