Got an Hour? Pedigree Dogs Exposed by BBC
Documentary - BBC - Pedigree Dogs ExposedThinking about breeding your dog? Thinking about breed standards? Think you have an hour?
Why dun I listen to my own advice?
I received an SMS from Auntie Cynthia about an urgent dog issue at 11pm at night...FW: Urgent golden must be rehome tonightYou want to take this female golden 21 months old otherwise tomorrow friend giving to SPCA. Must take by tonight.Usually anything from Auntie Cynthia is a serious issue, and this sounded serious enough. Pa called her up and query as there was no number. So he was given Gary's hp number (Removed after consideration). Pa promptly called him up only to find out that its for another friend that he is helping.Hence another number was given. Kenny (Removed after consideration) answered the call and was actually helping a 3rd friend. The actual GR owner. And he was there with him and Pa spoke to the GR owner. The story told was that the owner had moved from a landed property to a condo apartment. And apparently the condo doesn't allow dogs. So this being the first day, he had to get rid of the dog like NOW."It cannot be the management doesn't give you any time to rehome the dog... why the big rush?" asked Pa."I also have no time for her lah. So I'll just bring her to SPCA. I cannot wait a week." said the GR owner."... ok..."Looks like the GR was going to discarded like old trash before CNY spring cleaning. Pa managed then to convince the owner to keep the dog for just one more day as he looked for an urgent foster home. In the background... it sounded like the owner was playing mahjong.Pa also requested that the GR owner sms him and send him pictures of the GR, so that we could help with the rehoming. The owner agreed and asked Pa to sms to Kenny his email address and Pa did.Immediately, social media platforms were used, and messages were sent out... Within 30mins, there were volunteers to view, foster and adopt the dog. But the Kenny was not answering messages and when a call was placed, Kenny instead canceled the call and turned off his phone. This was only just past 12am.Pa instead sms Gary for help to contact Kenny."Look I do not care about your impression or feelings. I have just messaged Cynthia about adopting a dog. Please stop bothering me and do not send me rude messages. Forget about the whole thing."A dog that was suppose to be sent to SPCA today and likely to lose her life... and there we were trying to help... Pa started to get angry... But with himself. You see, for a long time already, he has decided to help when there is someone he knows personally that is directly involved. in this case, Auntie Cynthia didn't know who Gary was, and also didn't know who Kenny was as well.Pa broke his own rule. Hence, the anger he felt... was towards himself.Kenny also didn't bother to reply or answer any SMS till today. Not until Pa called him 10 mins ago. And then he told Pa very flippantly that a relative has taken the dog.No thanks. No apology. No sincerity.Pa can be angry at himself. But this is my blog. And I have decided to be angry at having these jokers waste my Pa's time. I have invited them to read this blog post. Want your HP numbers taken down? Simple. I want to know the GR owner's name and number. And then I will replace it accordingly..I. ^..^ .I.Update: Kenny has responded. Pa explained to him the entire frustration of the situation. Let bygones be bygones then. Lets just hope we do not make this mistake again.
Quad Camera New iPhone App / Suri for Adoption
Suri the GSD is up for adoption... I have met with her several times before and she is a REAL sweetie. I know the poster says that she is basic command trained... but she is really a lot more than that. I have objected with Auntie Eileen about that but she says wait till the potential adopter meet her and get blown away!So please help spread the word. She really does deserve a great home! She is very well-formed and exceedingly pretty too! Contact Auntie Eileen for more details and visiting timings. And once again, its obvious that Pa has gotten a new app for his iPhone and had us playing with it again. Its called the Quad Camera and it really does take some really interesting pictures. Its like those old time multi-lens cameras. With an option to take 4's 8's and in Rectangles or a Filmstrip type... it makes it kinda fun playing with it. The results are unexpected.Looks like we'll be going out soon to try out this new app sooner and better!!
Bear & Bruno's TV Debut
Bruno's and my TV debut at 9.30pm tonight on Suria... So excited! Suria-Muslim-Dogs-Rottweilers...It is such a joy to be able to use all those words in one sentence.- Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone
Obligatory New Year Post
I am not a very happy Rottie. 2009 rocked for me... so many things happened... But when it came to saying farewell to 2009... I got nothing. All these pictures... have NOTHING to do with me but to piss me off.Did you know that Hilton Singapore, 4 season, regeant, bayview, somerset compass, fraser place all allow dogs to stay as well? But instead... Pa had to go to one that didn't allow dogs.Boy.... I would have enjoyed the view immensely.2009 was a year of new friends and new experiences... and in a short few days, our debut TV appearance with Suria would be on... once we get the episode, it would be uploaded for all to watch!Irritatingly, not many pictures have been taken of me recently...But we did get some very interesting gifts! Hopefully Chinese New Year wouldn't be as bad.Sherjay just past his 1 year birthday as well. He is really such a big boy now. Hope he had fun at his birthday! All in all, all of us met up with frens we never met before, but know each other in a way no one else could. Save for Auntie Karen who is always acting cute online.
Mono the Pyrenean Mountain Dog
A terrible twist of fate for Mono the Pyrenean Mountain Dog. The owner today called Pa up, and that he wants to give the dog up. And he has only had him for 3-4 days. What has gone wrong? Apparently this fellow has been rehomed at least 3 times already. Each time, the previous owners could not take his antics and misbehavior. And boy... Pa understands he has some.A pyrenean mountain dog is a big fellow. Male dogs can go up to 50-55kgs. This fellow is at least 10kgs underweight. His fur has also been very badly groomed. This is how the fellow should be looking. But the problem isn't only about his looks. His behavior STINKS. He is aggressive and will charge at other dogs. It is HIGHLY possible that he might NEVER go for walks without a muzzle. This was one of those few dogs where going without a muzzle would really be a big bad idea. But Pa as a firm handler, and he had kept him for 1+ day, didn't have the same problems the other more clueless dog owners have.Pa didn't get the same incessant barking that seemed to affect the others. In fact, after a few firm corrections, he also stopped trying to kill Bruno and me.But the bad news still exist EVEN after Pa has offered to train and teach the new owner what to do. Looks like he is going to given away again.Mono is a beautiful trainable dog. And if you have what it takes to train this dog, Pa would be more than happy to give free lessons in order to have him rehomed one last time. Please email Pa at killertouch@hotmail.com. Mono is already microchipped and is looking for a new loving home. It will take a lot of training. Are you up for it?*Preferable for families with no current pets and have Mono their only pet.
Fined $9000 for Dog Attack / Farewell to Mono!
Fined $9000 for Dog AttackTHE man whose mongrel bit three children in January was fined $9,000 on three charges on Thursday. It was Mr Terri Chua's first brush with the law but not the first time that his dog Mon Mon had created trouble. About two years ago, the yellow, short-haired mongrel had bolted out of Mr Chua's Serangoon Garden's home; pouncing on a jogger passing by and chasing her for some distance. That jogger filed a police report and Mr Chua, 46, was given a warning. Since then, the corporate trainer said he and his family always made sure someone was holding onto the two-year-old dog whenever the gate was opened. He said the dog gave no trouble at home, even to his children aged nine and 10. Mon Mon was friendly and playful with the family but when it came to strangers was easily excited, said Mr Chua. He told The Straits Times that Mon Mon was leashed when he walked the dog in Tavistock Park in January. There were some children playing there and when Mon Mon broke free of Mr Chua's grip it pounced onto a boy. By the time he got hold of Mon Mon, it had hurt two other children. He took the dog home and returned to the park, where he found police waiting for him. 'I took all the precautions that I could. I had him on a leash and it was in my hand. It just so happened that we were at the wrong place at the wrong time,' he said. The Chuas have no plans to put Mon Mon to sleep. Nor will they muzzle the dog. What is wrong with people nowadays? While a dog has every right to live and protect his family, so does other human beings as well. This dog is obviously out of control.Owners like these are utterly clueless what to do. This is so terrible.News like this upsets me...Uncle Jaywalk had a very nice article up on his blog for us... go take a look!Good news for Mono the Pyrenean Mountain Dog.His owner was looking for him eventually and is actually our neighbour. The worst thing is that Pa actually brought the dog to that farm and asked the people there is that dog theirs... and they said no it wasn't.Sounds like they might be having some internal issues with each other... I do hope Mono will not be suffering for it. Good Luck Mono! we will be visiting you soon.
What Breed is this fellow?
He walked into my place... pretty docile to humans... but a little aggressive towards other male dogs...He looks like a XL Samoyed with floppy ears and. But though Bruno is bigger then him...... his height and size is pretty big... I wonder how much he weighs? Frontal position looks like a Golden's face.He looks groomed really, so its likely he ran away and forgot to go home. We will be going to the Vet with him to check for a microchip and see if he is registered in any database in Singapore. He would need a bath soon!A baby Rottie at Pet Lover's Vivo City... He's getting a little big for his cage... I hope someone gets him soon! Else his hinds may suffer... NO PA... Dun anyhow anyhow... Two big dogs is MORE than enough. (Pa: But.... But...)This was the newest adopted mongrel pup we found at our swimming pool... isn't he a beauty? He even has Rottie colors. He's a little skittish and snappish... so I hope that his new mummy would have the ability to train him well. If she does train him well, he will be a great dog I'm sure.GOOD NEWS! Shiloh has been ADOPTED!Dear friends,Thank you very much for all your help in spreading the word about Shiloh the husky, as well as as your kind donations.I have great news - Shiloh has found a home! Next week, she will be moving to her new semi-detached home with a nice couple who are experienced with huskies and who currently already have one husky. Shiloh has met them and their husky and everyone gets along great. She'll be going to a good home!:) Auntie Lillian(PS: we have determined that this fellow might be a Pyrenean Mountain Dog... He looks skinnier than the ones on the internet probably because he has been groomed before. He has also a microchip! Tomorrow we will be following up with SPCA and AVA!PPS: bad news. ALL database available have no record of this fellow. Pa has even called up clinics, but so far, NOTHING. How is this possible? Please help spread the word that a lost dog is found! or is this a case of abandonment?)
Shiloh the Female Husky for Adoption
Auntie Lillian that adopted Trip... is now helping to rehome Shiloh the Husky! Below is her email to me...Dearest Bear,Please help!A 4-year old female husky needs a home.A husky was found on 3 Dec 2009 at Pasir Ris Farmway 2. She's a grey/white husky, relatively smaller in size (to other huskies), about 4 years old. Apart from the fact that she'd probably been outside for a few days, she looked to be in good shape and well-fed.I'm going to put out lost & found notices for her, but my belief is that she's most likely been abandoned. She is microchipped - her previous owners sold her in 2008 and thereafter there is no information on who owned her.She is currently being boarded at Mutts N Mittens and is in quarantine pending a further vet check. So far, she's been deticked. From what I can tell, she is a pretty docile and even tempered dog. She responds to anyone handling her and I've been able to take her for walks, but she also sometimes seems a bit anxious - perhaps that is due to her abandonment and her adjusting to a new environment. Other details about her are unknown, I can update whoever is interested over time when I learn more about her. Please help spread the word and if anyone is interested in either:a) adopting the huskyb) fostering the huskyc) donating to help with boarding and vet costs (in such situations no money will go directly to me, we will arrange to go to the vet/kennel)** Anyone interested in adopting should ideally have experience raising large dogs and/or huskies. Huskies require a lot of care and attention - for exercise and grooming. For adoptions, there is no fee, but I am requesting that a donation be made to an animal shelter. Please contact Lillian at 9687 7543 (SMS is best, She will respond as soon as possible) or at tripthedog@me.comThank you!
10,000 Euros to be saved... We wouldn't have charged a Cent.
In November 2009, this woman who was in trouble at sea, was made to swim 100 metres to shore... with a crate of Rottie puppies on her head... her two other dogs and her friend also made it. Tired but not hurt. What was so terrible was that there was help at hand... and that the tug boat that went out the help them, DEMANDED €10,000!!Humans can get pretty ugly. Some of them deserves to be bitten I am sure of it.Laura Hughes, 28, braved waves up to five metres high as she struck out for a beach on the Greek island of Rhodes. Her 14 and a half foot boat had been pushed around the Turkish coast by powerful gale force winds leaving her close to the Greek island of Rhodes. She was left completely helpless after a rope from her boat's sails got caught in the boat's propeller and the engine stopped working. After being pushed miles around the coast and fearing her boat would sink or capsize, Miss Hughes had no other option but to abandon ship - and swim 75 metres to the shore. Miss Hughes, from Bedford, had acquired her boat 'Csavargo' from a friend who had salvaged it in Madagascar. After completing an MA in Media and Art at the University of Westminster in January 2009 she had spent the summer sailing along the Turkish coast. Miss Hughes took her two dogs Ragga Muffin and Tiger Lily along for company and was later joined by her friend John Cochrane, 30, in September. The former gave birth to nine puppies during the voyage. It was while trying to anchor the boat amid a storm that the rope from the sails got caught in the boats propeller leading to the engine malfunction. Miss Hughes tried desperately to control the steering wheel but the boat was travelling at a speed of 2.3 knots - and there was no way of stopping it. After several hours, Miss Hughes found herself stranded in a busy shipping lane three miles off the coast of Rhodes. Worried that they would crash into another boat, she sent out a May Day distress signal over the ship's VHF radio. However when help arrived in the shape of a Greek tug boat, they demanded 10,000 euros to rescuing them - and Miss Hughes didn't enough have money to pay them. So, wearing a lifejacket, Miss Hughes jumped out of the boat, carrying the nine Rottweiler puppies 'African-style' by balancing the crate on her head and holding the side with one hand while swimming with the other. Mr Cochrane and the two adult dogs also jumped off the boat and swam to the nearest beach at the Greek resort of Lalissos about 100 metres from their boat. When they got to the shore, exhausted, they were helped by German tourists from a beach hotel and members of the emergency services. The British Embassy found Laura and John a hotel room for the night - and the puppies spent the night at a local Greek police station. The next day local fishermen rescued Laura's boat which had been washed up on some nearby sand dunes.
Trip at about 8-9months
That... is a very graceful and fast and DARN strong 3 legged dog. Trip surprised us all with his agility... he easily outran many of the other dogs at the West Coast Dog Run.Look at how tall he has grown! I think he might even be slightly taller than me eventually... Auntie Lillian isn't exactly very big... so I sometimes suspect that Trip brings her out for a walk instead!Running for him made more sense as he is more comfortable with the pace on 3 legs. Walking would be kinda tough. But Auntie Lillian loves him to bits... Its kinda cute watching her trying to catch up to her 3-legged dog.He really enjoys being off leash... and he is pretty friendly with most other dogs. Auntie Lillian has a done a great job taking care of him. Honestly... if you didn't look at him again, you wouldn't even notice his disability.Like all other living things, he has adapted well... and excelled. We were of course conserving energy for our filming later on... so unfortunately we had to cut short this get together... but we will do it again soonest!Maybe Auntie Lillian can enroll trip for Agility Classes! That would be a Great Idea! Beat the rest of the abled dogs! We can't do it... well... because the equipment would break. But Trip with the way he runs, dodges and sprints... I think he might just be the right one for that!Whatever it is... Trip is truly a lucky doggie to have so many love him. I hope he realises that!
Another step back for Rottweilers.
A BUSINESSMAN whose two Rottweilers bit two people within five months was charged in court on Tuesday. Wu Wai Hong, 61, is accused of being the owner of the two dogs which caused injury to Mr Seah Jeng Jye, 42, at Toh Tuck Road on Oct 10 last year. Mr Seah was bitten on his left shin region. The second charge states that Wu's dogs bit Ms Puvanesvary Alahakone, 49 on her left upper thigh region along Toh Tuck Place on March 4. Wu, who intends to plead guilty, told the court that he was willing to compensate the victims. The case was adjourned to Dec 15. If convicted, Wu can be fined up to $5,000 per charge. In addition, the court can order him to pay compensation of up to $2,000 to each victim.Sometimes... I really do not know what to say. What exactly happened? Many details were not provided in the article. However, a picture is worth a thousand words. Hopefully our work would help lift so many misconceptions about our breed. I think this is worth working for. I do hope that people would eventually come to us to talk to us about our side of the story.
You know it, its crunch time!
Its been a really busy month... especially now. Big surprise to all, Suria the Singapore Malay Muslim channel has hired Bruno and Me to be part of their Kampong Drama Production. These are just 3 of the boys that had to be chased by us down...And they were having so much fun that Bruno had to do it over and over again! The camera's kept on catching their grins on their faces... This was actually great. Better understanding between our two cultures is always welcome. This place that we were at is truly Singapore's last Kampong. Its as if you are transported to a whole new place altogether. The houses, lifestyle, atmosphere is just in such contrast to Singapore's hectic pace. Can't reveal too much of our gig right now... but when the time is right, we have loads of pictures that recorded this entire fantastic experience!PS> Even the Pigeons are fat and fearless there!
Kite Flying Day
Ooooo.... this happened months ago but I have no idea why i didn't manage to blog about it... Going through some of my pictures again sometimes can turn up real gems like these!! Kite Flying in Seng Keng!Uncle Edmund had a really cool kite of a Black Pirate ship... it wasn't too windy that day, and the Kite didn't fly that well... but it was a cool kite nevertheless. Pa also has two similar kites... and they didn't fly well as well... until...He whipped out his STRING OF 50 KITES! Those flew beautifully! That's Auntie Gail trying not to mess up the kites....and that's Auntie Yin totally messing them up.See what I mean? There were plenty of people all around, so we didn't run round much... We just chilled and hung around.Maybe a little too much... but hey... we didn't mind.I mean nothing better to take in a little sun.As long as everyone goes back with a big wide grin.By evening most people vacated the field... so Pa let us run around playing fetch. It was a little muddy... but we didn't care. It was good to stretch out a little.Bruno as usual had a great time. So did I.As we were back at the car and packing up, this fellow came over and greeted Pa. Pa talked to him all friendly but the person suddenly said things like don't bring a bad name to dog owners. Apparently he had seen us off-leash and playing ball just now and he didn't like it at all.Pa detected something is wrong with the person, so he flipped the guy off and left. Usually people like that can sometimes think they know better. Moreover, it was dinner time and Pa was hungry.Sorry for the long missing updates inbetween... but things have been crazy. Till next time then!
Summer, in need of a new home
Meet Summer. She was found half-starved at a playground... but even then, she was very sweet to her rescuers. She has since been nursed back to health from 3 weeks ago and the Vet has given her a clean bill of health... and her teeth are so CLEAN!It is kinda obvious that summer contains some GR blood in her.... the facial structure is unmistakable. Her body size however is pretty small. About 18-20kgs at best.Even meeting us for the first time... she was pretty confident and easy to be with. She warmed up to us easily and wasn't at all skittish... OK... MAYBE a little... but who wouldn't be? look at Bruno. She is very very sweet. Very tame. And seriously quite beautiful. She doesn't smell a day over a year old. In fact, Pa estimates her to be about 9-11 months old only. She has yet to be spayed, so it would be good that her new parents would help her do that.To view, please contact Pa at killertouch@hotmail.com or fusionbox@hotmail.comCurrently she is fostered at Station99(SPECTRA Arts and Adventure Hub 270 Upper Bukit Timah Road #01-11/12)So if you are looking for a great dog to begin with, contact us immediately and we will see if Summer is just the right dog for you!***Summer is not a eligible candidate for HDB dwelling***
A big hi to Milo the CHH
Thanks to Milo's Dad, we had some of our pictures taken at the pool this week! And our first bath in 3 weeks. Yucks. I know.Nice to have met you too!
Dog and Brother
Hahahaha... its about damn time!
Very Few updates...
The truth of the matter is there little of anything happened the last 3-4 weeks. We stayed at the farm most of the time... but other than some entertaining exchanges with Auntie Jan Jan, little of anything actually happened.Brown Rice was cooked. Food was prepared. We are bored out of our minds.Pa on the other hand seems to have the time of his life. Which is irritating really. And his own photo-blog is updated most regularly. His new thing being with instant photos... that he will take pictures of.Humans i can never understand. A dog's life is so much simpler.
Pa's Trip to Japan
How I wish that I would have a chance to see all this. Pa took photos on the plane to show me what I missed... other from him... and all the sights he saw. I have to imagine the rest. Check it out... there are even cracks in the clouds!First day in Japan was a hoot. Check out the train lines and connections Pa had to figure ! Thank goodness Pa managed to purchase a JR Rail Pass for 7 DaysThis gave him unlimited train rides for all trains including the bullet trains to different parts of Japan. He estimated that he paid about $450 for train rides that would have cost him over $700-$800. Great Savings! The weather wasn't very kind... but still, it was bearable. Not overly cold as well! Many people carried umbrellas, both young and old, male or female. In Singapore, most guys wouldn't be caught dead with one... why, I have no idea.Shops in Japan are very nice, small, quaint and very hospitable. They give you such a warm cozy feeling that you cannot help but buy something all the time.Though I must admit that there are certain weird fetishes and cultural differences. This is not a Digital Map. Pa took this photo of a map in a train station! This is iTK (Shinji san) taking his first train ride after being stuck in that terrible capsule after so long. I dun blame him for brooding. I would be too.Well, at least he got to look out of the window and not me. What else does he have have to complain about?
iTK... An "accurate" depiction of Pa... when he gets slimmer.
This is Shinji Ikari, main character of Neon Genesis Evangelion (新世紀エヴァンゲリオン, Shin Seiki Evangerion) But he will no longer be Shinji.Say hi to iTK. An accurate yet brooding depiction of Pa in his quest to look remotely like this guy. Wakakaka... Pa is quite the clown.Today, Pa was asked to help rehome a GR that was purchased a year ago as a gift from a guy to a girl... just because the girl watched the movie 10 promises to my dog. Movies like Nemo, Marley and Me, etc. there would be an inevitable spike in sales of the "animal". Even now movies like G-Force carries warning labels asking people not to purchase the pet because of the movie.Strangely, movies like Cujo probably wouldn't increase the popularity of Rotties.Anyway, she has to give the dog up because she doesn't have time for the dog, stays in a 3 room government flat, didn't train the dog, and now... HDB is now forcing her to give up the dog or else AVA officers will put it down.As Pa has a waiting list of potential adopters that has a place in their homes for another member, he offered his help to rehome the dog. Of course... some rules apply.-No Adoption Fee (any money contributed would go into Pa's medical fund for needy dogs)-No Changing of Decision-No Viewing of the Dog after a successful adoption. This is to lower the chance of depression and eventual dog bites. Dogs when removed from their homes would be depressed... and given the fact the dog is untrained, the new family would have to be stern and strict during the training period.Should the previous owner come by needlessly and frequently, the dog would only be really happy and depressed every time the previous owner walks away. This might contribute to an "incident". Not only that... it is only selfish and unreasonable for the previous owner to want to do this.Looks like she is not agreeable and wants to continue to visit him after he gets adopted. Pa has decided that such people should then handle their own affairs. The only fellow that really loses out is the dog.So look out for the little adventures of iTK with his other little half naked friends in Tokyo! That's where he is from... doesn't speak a single word of English right now.
A day at the Beach... and NOT swimming...
Auntie Radha has gone a little mad. That's one vicious bite worthy of a baby rottie gone mad. But I am guessing Uncle Josh is totally ok with it. Sigh... we went ALL the way to the beach and we weren't allowed to swim and stuff... BORING!!! I hope such teasing would stop immediately. Imitating us might earn you some brownie points... but seriously... teasing a rottie is never a great idea! Sigh... WATER... PLAY... argh. Eventually have to face it and just enjoy the sand and... ermmm... more sand. By the way, HAPPY BIRTHDAY UNCLE JUNHAO! that was a GREAT dinner. Also Auntie Linny... its her birthday today... but we dun see her much anymore. I guess she has some new friends. Not a great week I suppose... and this coming week would suck even more.
A new Photoblog / Moving on to the next Phase.
With the purchase of the new Sony 50mm Lens, things have gotten a little crazy. Now... apparently Pa's basic A100 is no longer... suitable. Sigh... looks like we might have to look at buying a new body... but should we move on to another camera system? or perhaps the A700? This incredibly sharp lens isn't doing very well with a slow AF body... not to mention the clicks are very loud.Happy Birthday QQ! The new pictures that can be churned out still has plenty of bad pics before a good one appears... Camera shake is a huge issue as Pa is taking too damn long to snap a picture. Fortunately, he managed to improve his Write Speed to the CF card by getting a much faster card. It does make an incredible difference.So... in an effort to move on from just Doggie Pics... *sob* Pa has decided to start a new PhotoBlog at t-k.tumblr.com or My Slice of Life. It would mainly concentrate on Photos taken by Pa and his little journey to become a little more "creative".So if you are interested in a little photography... thoughts... and plenty of pictures of food... go over to his new tumblr account and say hi. I wouldn't be going there very often cause... I've got plenty of things to do... not as free as him. *yawn*What else can be prettier than I am? I think he will give up the other blog soon enough, and come back here where he belongs.
A cute Stray / A missing Bruno
Have you seen this DOG?Bruno... has gone missing. That bloody moron rain out to play with other dogs and forgot how to get home.He was spotted at the traffic lights by many people... and another saw him walking towards the private estates neaby. At about 1am, he was arrested and brought to the police station for loitering without an owner.Pa had to go bail him out the next day. Unfortunately... no cameras were allowed... and Pa had to draw out how he looked liked. They had a couple of doggy cages but NONE could fit him. So they had to use the flexible cuffs they use on felons to put round Bruno's neck. That was also the only thing that could fit him. He was stuck in other people's carpark for a WHOLE night.Bruno was saved by some kind soul. Thanks a lot to whoever it is! The SPCA kindly assisted Pa in his search the next day. Auntie Shanti and Auntie Anna from SPCA ignored proper procedures and just wanted Pa to get that little brat back. The Police Officers were all in good humor and they were in awe of his size. Most were wondering if he would bite. After Pa explained, most were put at ease. Thank you Sergeant Loy! He was MOST understanding. This little ill mannered darling sat on Pa's foot as Pa was trying to work. She refused to move anywhere else.I really do like her colors. And she's a feisty little one. She's still a playful pup. Should we get her a new nice home? She does seem happy running around free... But I think she wants some real attention too.
Bruno's recovery / New Collars / New Camera Lens / Sample pictures
Just to update anyone that is still interested in Bruno's Maggoty Wound... its all healed up already... it wasn't an easy trip i think... and it was pretty deep.Looks like the hair is all growing back and there should also be minimal scarring. And this is Pa's newest big camera purchase... A Sony 50mm F1.4. Not that I know what all those numbers mean... but he seems pretty happy with it... Armed with his newest toy...He has been snapping away like a little kid... and my goodness... the difference in having a good fast lens becomes apparent!Looks like its a lens he should have acquired a long time ago... oh... the missed opportunities!Check out these Bento Boxes Auntie Joys and Auntie Haze made for their birthday doggies! I cannot imagine the amount of effort and work that went into these! And Bruno and me both had one each!Oh my goodness... they were YUMMY. Nothing was left after these pictures were taken. Sorry we couldn't be there... But we heard it was pretty cramp anyway... and having a couple of rotties there would probably not be a good idea. But the food... we LIKE!The lens is so great that minimal post-processing is even used. Suitably impressed... I allowed Pa to take pictures of me.And this was the best he could do with his first attempt... Bah.QQ and Ozzie also had nice cool new collars from Beary's! Handmade collars! Unfortunately... the collars wouldn't really fit us one bit... but I think it looks great on QQ and Ozzie. (Above Picture by Rachel Teo)Check out how great the collar looks even on a sucky iPhone camera!Nothing compared to the real pro camera of course... Pa realises that other from having a great lens... he still has a lot to learn. (Above Picture by Rachel Teo)Now to bring the lens out for a spin. Lets see what a basic cam like the A100 with an excellent lens can do.Auntie Dephany Maia organised a Twitter & Plurk picnic called Twitnic... and it was an excellent time to shake off some dust. (Above Picture by Rachel Teo)Auntie Leshane KuKuNehNeh (what a mouthful) was the first one to break the ice and she easily came over with her hubby-to-be Uncle Krisandro and it wasn't long before she was happily hugging and humping me.What a cute and loving couple these two are... and I am just so happy they were not afraid at all... though this is the very first time we met. This is Auntie Dephany Maia and she is a little more bias towards Bruno. I just she just like dumb himbos. Anyway... she did come over to hug me first... or... rather I made sure of that. But she had her devious ways with Bruno anyway. This is Auntie Ingrid and she was with Uncle Daryl Tay and his doggie too! We all got along just fine.We met plenty of other people at the picnic as well... and it wasn't one of those crazy picnics... though it was really... really... HAWT.Auntie Rachel was also there and apparently she has never taken a picture with us before... TADA! her very first Bruno picture. And guess who did we meet by chance! it was Auntie Pam Oei! We had met once before... but didn't really have a chance to take pictures! She looks mighty glad to meet us too!Uncle Nick Lee was there too... and he took plenty of pictures of us in his camera... a Canon 5D Mk I with a 17-40mm len wide angle lens! Check out the cool effects he manage to get with such a high end camera! It was a lovely day... and many people appreciating me for who I am... and not what breed I am.I am SUITABLY happy.QQ also had quite a few great pictures taken of her!Such a pretty little girl... I can eat her all up.Thank you Uncle Nick Lee! You can see more of his pictures on his flickr account.
Bruno and Bear needed to donate essential blood for Twinkle
Before receiving the call that Both Bruno and I are needed urgently, we knew that Twinkle was in need of some urgent help. When we got the 2nd call... that the blood was now urgently needed, we went down immediately after dragging Pa out of the office and into the car.But we did realise just how painful the entire procedure was... It was just about donating blood. First, a sample was taken from us... to see what blood type we were.Then... the put PINK pressure bandages on us! PINK!... Actually we didn't mind lah.. but the doctors and nurses were making such a big deal.Next they started to smear our blood on a card... spreading it with some other reactive chemical... and spread round round round... and the same time muttering and chanting to themselves... I think they were really very tired. It was interesting to see just how careful they were typing us. Apparently the other place where Twinkle had her first failed transfusion was really fast. A lady with two golden retrievers reacted to the call first... and she "donated" her dog's blood... for $1 for every ml.That's like over $850 for two bags of doggie blood... and it FAILED. the procedure was also very fast... like 15 mins... as if the dogs were really used to the abuse. Even though we were pretty mild mannered, we were still sedated slightly. Here is Bruno looking over and guarding a pretty ill-feeling Twinkle. That's Josh... Twinkle's Papa.Twinkle has an needle stuck up her paw... and she limps around pretty painfully. Feeling terrible, she doesn't move much. Twinkle's half brother wasn't so lucky... he died after 6 hours of ingesting possibly Rat poison that was placed around housing estates... Please please please train your dogs not to pick up foreign food like things on the floor. The results are OUT! Both Bruno and me are a perfect match for Twinkle! The next thing was to have Pa sign a Permission Form... explaining the dangers of having us sedated etc. The fact that we might die suddenly dawn upon us.After that the doctors and nurses refused to allow cameras inside... Pa wanted to take some pictures during our heroic moment! We were also put on drip to replace the valuable blood we just DONATED... not SOLD hor... I cannot imagine people selling their dog's blood. We were full of energy when we came in... excited about the midnight trip. But being sedated knocked us out completely. We even got little nice white cards....As happy as we were helping to save another life...And making Twinkle's Papa so happy he kept giving us tummy rubs...We had a bald spot to show for it....You see... the had to take the blood out from the Jugular Vein. That means shaving a place on the neck, and sticking a needle down my neck. Somehow, they felt that most Doggie Owners wouldn't be able to stomach that i suppose. At least this time I got a blue bandage. Here is Bruno having his IV removed.Twinkle later had a couple of rejections from the blood... and some injections were used to help counter that... Right now... she is still feeling pretty ill and hopefully our blood would help her get back on her feet soon.Good Luck Twinkle! Its ALL up to you now.
Some updates on Bruno's health
Pa got lazy (I was busy lah.) and we didn't have any real bone meal for quite a while. Not to mention the big freezer broke down and space for storing our food was compromised. So we were on dry doggie food for a period of about 2 weeks. In just two weeks, Bruno's pristine white teeth had a very thick obvious layer of Tartar on his rear molars. His breath also stank. That was when Pa discovered it. Suitably shocked... and then dismayed... Pa quickly went back to the Bone diet... and the Tartar significantly lessened after a week. Here you can see the same tooth but with less tartar... almost all gone. And a little more time passed and Bruno's teeth went back to normal. If this isn't conclusive evidence that dog food is NOT really that great for dogs... then I dun know what is.sometimes... I really do not know what humans can come up with... Dog food not good for dogs? What else can they come up with! And this little brat... dun know what is good for him at all. Ass itchy... bite bite biteThen after that... suffer the consequences.Bruno and me lives out in the open... so unknown to Pa, he had a small infection that didn't turn out to be that small afterall. This picture was taken AFTER the wound had been cleaned and disinfected. Its still healing... but he will be fine... Not to mention how Pa had to slowly remove the maggots one by one that were hiding inside that tiny hole. Or how Pa couldn't believe his eyes when he soaked the wound in alcohol... and the wound started moving.Yucks.
A dear family friend lost today...
This is Grandma... she went over to Japan for a holiday... for the first time in her life... alone... She never traveled alone anywhere. We the family were really proud of her.Of course she would meet really nice kind friends there! This is Masako san. She is the wife of Deguchi san... dearest friend and business partner to the family.They... are THE most loving couple ever. They were seldom apart... and always keeping each other company. They never had kids... but it looked as if each other were all they needed. They lived just right next door to where we are... but we never really often saw each other. I remember meeting them a few times... but I am surprised I NEVER took a picture with them... But grandma did.Masako san simply vomitted and passed away quickly last night. It was simply... too fast... too fast to even say goodbye. Leaving her husband behind. We are all so terribly sad.Without fail... they would always join us for big family dinners. She is a expert flower/plant arranger. She would always send a potted plant, exquisitely arranged to the home in Yishun... every single year. She was always with a kind word... and very patient with everything. She will be missed... but not more than her husband... whom she is everything to him.Sometimes its really not about what you do... and how hard you do it... but rather... who is there with you till the end. A simple family dinner during Pa's 2009 birthday was simply the best. Nothing beats a home cooked meal, quirky candles and a seriously doubtful cake to make Pa's day.Pa is very upset. And he looked into my eyes and said... Do not ask me to love you forever. I will hate you the day you die. I will hate that you left me behind. I will hate that you went on without me.I will hate you the day you die.I guess... we will hate the person we love the most eventually. Today, life isn't simple.
Dog attack or a lack of training? See what a Shih Zhu did to Auntie Ming
http://www.straitstimes.com/Breaking%2BNews/World/Story/STIStory_406376.htmlJuly 22, 2009Newborn dragged by dogLEXINGTON (Kentucky) - A FATHER was frantically calling police to report his missing newborn when he spotted the baby, bleeding from the mouth and clutched in the mouth of a family dog who had carried him from his crib to the heavily wooded backyard.Four-day-old Alexander James Smith was rushed to the emergency room at University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, where he was listed in critical condition Tuesday with two collapsed lungs, a skull fracture, broken ribs and various cuts and bruises. His father, Mr Michael Smith, said doctors were optimistic the boy would survive, but a day earlier they braced the family for the worst and had to use resuscitation paddles to get a heartbeat.'They took us straight to a consulting room with a pastor and gave us pretty much what was the last visitation,' Mr Smith said in an interview with The Associated Press from a hospital waiting room.Mr Smith said he and his wife, Chrissie, had just put Alexander James (or A J) in his crib Monday afternoon in their Nicholasville, Kentucky, home and were preparing for a baby shower. When Chrissie returned to the bedroom minutes later, one of the doors was ajar and both the baby and their Native American Indian dog - a breed that looks similar to a husky - were gone.Mr Michael Smith initially headed to the backyard, knowing that Dakota, a mixed breed with wolves in its ancestry, had a reputation for stealing household items like cups and wallets and depositing them there. He spent 10 minutes looking among the trees and bushes in the two-acre fenced backyard before finding the dog and child about 200 yards (metres) behind the house.'When you're running through the backyard and you can't find him, every worst fear comes through your head,' Mr Smith said. 'We had to try to stay positive, try and find him. My guess is five more minutes and he wouldn't be here.' Jessamine County chief deputy sheriff Allen Peel said no charges had been filed, but the case remains under investigation.Mr Smith, who is the owner of a security company where his wife also works, said the dog was treating the baby as a puppy and wasn't being vicious. But he expects that Dakota, who was taken into custody by animal control, will be destroyed. The 4-year-old was one of three dogs the family had owned since they were puppies and had no history of aggression, even when playing with Smith's two other children from a previous marriage, he said.'It wasn't a vicious dog attack,' Mr Smith said. 'She had A J for 10 minutes on her own, and if you look at A J's belly, there's about 100 little marks. All the dog had to do was one bite and A J wouldn't be here.' -- APEverytime I see the words "no history of aggression" I see a little red.it is because of this statement that many people think us dogs as unpredictable. That at any point of time we will go mad and bite someone. This is simply untrue. Even Bruno and myself, we have been trained to tolerate and not retaliate... but we still have a limit to our temper. Like any living thing... there is a limit to anyone and everyone's tolerance.Lets take the article at face value... No dog should ever be left unsupervised with a baby. Simply because it doesn't matter whether we had any intentions of harming the child... its just simply unwise. Some dogs are just born stupid like Bruno. This dog in the article wasn't trained well. The dog did not return to the owner when called. The explanation that the dog was treating the baby as a pup is also unacceptable.Like some female dogs or animals, like cheetahs, lions etc... pups are a sacred thing and they are fiercely protected even from the same tribe or pride. Humans should do well to remember that.Meet Serjay, Pa's little nephew... How fast he grows. He is very unafraid of big dogs and unafraid of us. Even then, we are never left unsupervised with him...And sometimes... its not from us that you have to be wary about. These are Auntie Ming's fingers after it was gnawed on by a small tiny Shih Tzu. Can you see the cracked nails? I cannot imagine just how much it hurts. Imagine these wounds on a child. This is what you get when you do not train your dogs well... Dogs bite ONLY for two reasons.Fear.Trained to do so.-*Please take note that Bruno and Bear are both trained dogs*-*Do not allow your child such close proximity unless the dog's owner is very sure*-*Even then, the risk you take is your own*-*Train your dog that any child afraid is out-of-bounds*-*Train your dog that any child unsupervised is out-of bounds*-*Bruno and Bear are both trained to also detect anxiety and would ignore or stay still until the person is comfortable again*
Tough Times... Training with the SCDF / Another Trip Update!
Business has been rather slow this summer... and we have been rather lazy ourselves. Its one of those really rare times Pa manage to sneak up behind two Rottweilers while they are sleeping... We of course expected him like always to come up to the main gate. hence... we waited at the main entrance.Ok... Bruno wasn't bothered about waiting at all. He was just snoozing away. I dun think he is a Rottie, more of a retriever.Of course it wasn't all play with us... we manage to squeeze in a couple of good sessions with our pals that run and play hide and seek. We love that game! We always win! Yep, we have to run into and around debris. One thing is kinda scary though... Pa was wearing some soft sole shoes... and a nail punctured all the way through... Time for some proper boots. The Equipment the SCDF uses are simply jus massive and uber fun to play with. We had a new mission to recognise people in cars as victims in need of help... We spotted them... but we jus haven't been able to identify them as victims. They are in a CAR! do we bark in people that looks like they are sleeping in cars from now on?Bruno was darn gone tired but recovered when we went to the pool to wash all the muck and dirt from our bodies.Remember Trip? Look at just how good looking he is now! Auntie Lillian has given Pa another update on him...Hi TKHere's another update on Trip. He's been doing well and growing fast! His demodex is 99.9% gone and his fur is almost all back too. I think he's about 4x the size he was when you last saw him.He continues to be very well behaved. He's learned a bunch of commands like sit, stay, come (sometimes), touch, fetch (sometimes), paw and high-five. His leash walking is erratic but I'm working on it! He loves people and playing with other dogs. He especially loves playing with labs and goldens and he gets really roughed up as a result. He also has this really really low, manly bark - which I hear so rarely that when he does bark, I find it very amusing. Here are a few photos!LillianThis is from a little while back. Still looking puppy-fattish. With one of his pals, Cippi. With Cippi again, one week ago. See the size difference now!Trip has been a really good boy. I hope he visits soon! We miss him lots... and we still wanna bring him to the big ass field to run about!
Auntie Crystal at the Expo! Prizes from the CoverDog 1st runner up position! The Passing of Sammi, a fine fine schnauzer.
Remember we won first runner up with the cover dog contest? We were told to go down and collect the prizes! We have PRIZES other from the coffee book! Auntie Crystal wanted to see us so we dropped by at the Expo where she was working for the day... She had on a police woman uniform!Too bad she left her hat and baton inside... it would be cool to have her be pulling us back. Plenty of people started taking photos...But like her, we are all used to the attention. She's a tiny little thing anyway. This was what we WON!! WOOHOO!!! FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD! We think even though we didn't win, we had a great time doing it and had some really nice photos out from it anyway. This is Sammi. She was this REALLY good and smart schnauzer with Auntie Cynthia. I swear her vocab was really good as well. And I liked her a whole lot!Well, she sometimes nips at me, but that's only because I'm the REALLY big fellow that always rudely smells her. I cannot help it. She smells so good. She passed on a couple days ago, going over the rainbow bridge finally. Apparently she was not in her best of health in her 7 years... but the good news apparently was that she didn't suffer at all.We aren't really sure what exactly happened, but she walked into the kitchen, laid down and passed on. Sometimes, that is just the best thing really. We will miss her lots and look forward in meeting her again when we pass on ourselves. I'll be more than happy to let her nip me.Life can be sometimes so frail. We really should cherish and value what we do have. Its just simply looking out for one another that makes things so much simpler and better. I mish you Sammi... more than you can imagine.I realise i never had any picture taken with her... and that saddens me so much. There is still CoCo and Joey. Cannot forget anymore.
