On National Day, Underlying Philosophy on Migration and Helping the Poor in Singapore

History

To what extent has recent higher levels of inflation affected the poor in Singapore? It is interesting that the government did not agree to be interviewed for the  Al Jazeera English report, for they have actually taken numerous steps to help the poor according to their own terms.

Whether the government would do more for the poor is more than a simple “challenge-and-response” paradigm that critics of the government would want us to believe. Rather it is a deeper philosophical stance underpinned by a historical paradigm. It is different from the contemporary conservatives in Western societies (pardon the generalization here) where they believe that individuals are ultimately responsible for their own welfare. Rather, the PAP conservatism stems from the notion that individuals, within a collective entity, are responsible for their own welfare. Hence the propagation of Wor[...]

Win Oledy Lor

son

It has been difficult asking my younger son, who is 3 years old now, to do anything.

If you ask him to go to bed, he'll say, "I don't want."

When you probe further and ask him why, his reply would be, "Because I don't want to sleep."

When he refuses to keep his toys and you ask him why, he'll reply, "Because I don't want to keep."

When he doesn't want to take his dinner and you ask him why, he'll answer, "Because I don't want to eat."

With answers like that, how do I ask my son anything? These answers are what we call the champion answers.

Similarly, when my younger son asks for sweets, we'll tell him you've to be a good boy then we'll give you sweet.

His answer, "I good boy already."

He really champion lor.

What happens if they succeed in outlawing abortion? Just imagine this: You are happily having sex with your partner, you use protection and all. Then one day, a little accident happens (and accidents do happen no matter how careful you are). While it will cost 500 bucks and a crying girlfriend to clear up the mess now, in the future it could well mean nine months of expenditure and pain. Or maybe a dead girl, if she chooses to get rid of it illegally.

Personally[...]

Acting Journal

Being an actor gives one the license to do all sorts of naughty things. So, that’s gonna be my line the next time someone asks me (for the umpteenth time) why I decided to become an actress. Some of the “naughty” things I’ve done in the name of acting:

Push someone into the Singapore River Dance in a graveyard Drink [...]
